About Pear Notes - Private P2P Sync

Pear Notes is a secure, private, and offline-first notebook designed to keep your thoughts, documents, and recordings safe. Built with a zero-knowledge architecture, Pear Notes encrypts all your data on-device and lets you sync across your devices directly using peer-to-peer (P2P) connections. No central servers, no cloud storage leaks, and absolute privacy.

FEATURES & BENEFITS:

• ZERO-SERVER PEER-TO-PEER SYNC
Sync your notebooks instantly across your phone, tablet, and computer without storing your data on third-party servers. Pear Notes uses a decentralized multi-device sync engine that merges modifications locally on your device. Since there is no central database coordinator, your notes remain completely yours.

• DIRECT DEVICE-TO-DEVICE SECURE TRANSFER
Your notes never go through a cloud provider. Devices discover and connect to each other securely over an encrypted peer-to-peer network. Using advanced NAT traversal, your devices establish direct connections to sync files, audio, and text, even when connected to different networks.

• CRYPTOGRAPHIC DEVICE PAIRING
Link new devices securely without exposing your digital identity. Pear Notes uses a secure blind pairing handshake to verify connections. Simply scan a pairing QR code on-screen and confirm the matching identity keys to establish a permanent, encrypted channel.

• LOCAL MEDIA SECURITY & BLOB STREAMING
Heavy media assets like voice memos, document scans, and images are stored inside an encrypted media vault. An isolated, in-app file streaming server securely renders attachments directly into the editor view, preventing temporary caches from leaking unencrypted files on your device storage.

• ROBUST AES-256 ENCRYPTED BACKUPS
Export your entire note vault into a single .pnbk file secured with AES-256-GCM encryption, sealed by a password only you choose. The key is derived from your password with 210,000 rounds of PBKDF2, and the password itself is never stored or transmitted — so you can safely keep these backups anywhere, and nobody, including us, can unlock one without it.

• PROFESSIONAL WRITING SPACE & STYLING
- Integrated voice recorder to record, review, and embed voice memos.
- Built-in document scanner to capture, crop, and convert physical pages to digital documents.
- Elegant typography with selectable premium font choices (Lora, Inter, Outfit, Newsreader, IBM Plex Mono).
- Full customization with Dark/Light modes and system-wide Material You color palettes.

PERMISSIONS DISCLOSURE:
• Camera: Required for scanning document pages and scanning pairing QR codes to sync new devices.
• Microphone: Required for recording voice notes.
• Storage: Required to export and import your encrypted backup archives.
