About Daily Earth View - Satellites
See the whole Earth photographed from 1.5 million km away, open satellite imagery for any day since 2000, and watch cities, glaciers and coastlines change since the 1970s. Daily Earth View brings the open satellite imagery of NASA, USGS and ESA to your phone. No account needed.
KEY FEATURES
■ Today's Earth (DSCOVR / EPIC)
NASA's DSCOVR satellite photographs the sunlit side of the whole planet 10–22 times a day. Play the day and watch the Earth turn, in natural or enhanced color, for any day since June 2015.
■ Satellite map, every day since 2000
Browse NASA GIBS imagery on a zoomable map and step day by day. 14 views:
• Natural color from VIIRS (NOAA-20, NOAA-21, Suomi NPP) and MODIS (Terra, Aqua)
• False color 7-2-1 for burn scars and floods, and 3-6-7 to tell snow and ice from cloud
• Sea surface temperature, vegetation (NDVI), rainfall, smoke and dust, land temperature
• City lights at night and the cloud-free Blue Marble
Add coastlines, borders, place names and fire detections. The map always shows how many hours ago the image was taken. Search places by name, or long-press the map to save a place or start a comparison there.
■ Find a clear day
Jump to the nearest day with few clouds over the area you are viewing.
■ Compare two dates
Drag the divider to compare the same place on two dates, or jump to one or ten years ago.
■ Decades since the 1970s
Yearly Landsat imagery (from 1972) shows how cities, glaciers and coastlines changed. From 2016 the images come from Sentinel-2 at 10 m, sharp enough to see streets and city blocks.
64 landmarks are ready, each with a short story: growing cities like Dubai, Shanghai, Beijing and Las Vegas, new capitals like Astana, reclaimed land like Hong Kong Airport and Palm Jumeirah, retreating glaciers, the shrinking Aral Sea and the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Compare your home town too, in natural color or infrared.
■ Time-lapse
Play daily or yearly images of one place as an animation: storms moving, a city growing.
■ Natural events worldwide
Wildfires, volcanoes, tropical cyclones, floods, icebergs and more from NASA EONET, in a list and on a map. Each event shows the satellite image of the day, dates, storm track and wind, and its distance from home, with a short explanation and a link to the source report. Volcanoes add a Wikipedia summary when your language has an article.
■ Ambient mode
Full screen, no controls: the Earth and landmarks cycle slowly while the screen stays on.
■ Wallpaper, save and share
Set the map view, the whole-Earth photo or a time-lapse frame as your wallpaper. Save or share images with the credit included.
■ Favorites and home
Save places you care about. Set your home and the Today screen shows the sky above it.
