About Pulse: SA News in 60 Words

South African news, 60 words at a time.

Pulse reads 15 South African newsrooms and summarises every story to about sixty words: long enough to actually know what happened, short enough to get through on the taxi in. Swipe through the day's news, and when a story matters to you, tap through and read the full article at the publication that reported it. Pulse points you at the reporting. It never replaces it.

ONE FEED, 15 NEWSROOMS

News24, News24 Business, TimesLIVE, Sowetan, EWN, eNCA, IOL, Daily Maverick, Mail & Guardian, The Citizen, SABC News, Business Day, BusinessTech, MyBroadband and TechCentral, all in one place. No need to open five news apps to find out what happened in South Africa today.

HOW PULSE DECIDES WHAT MATTERS

- Stories that several newsrooms are independently running rank highest. Three newsrooms chasing the same story is the closest thing to editorial judgement there is.
- When newsrooms cover the same event, Pulse groups their reporting into one card. Compare the coverage and pick which original to read.
- Opinion is labelled as opinion, so you always know whether you're reading reporting or argument.
- Pulse remembers what you've seen and tells you when you're caught up. No endless feed.

YOUR TOPICS

South Africa, Politics, Money, Sport and World. Pick the sections you care about and the feed tilts toward them. Change your mind any time.

- Start the day with a five-story morning briefing.
- Search any topic, or revisit stories you've already read.
- Save stories for later or share them.
- Comment on stories and join the conversation with your own profile.

BREAKING NEWS, ONLY IF YOU WANT IT

- A morning news briefing with what you need to know.
- Breaking news alerts, when a story is genuinely big.

Both are off until you switch them on, and just as easy to switch off again. Pulse will never ask for notification permission on startup.

PRIVACY

- No ads.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No location, no contacts, no browsing history.
- Read the entire feed without an account.

If you do create an account, you can delete it and everything attached to it from inside the app (Profile, then Delete account). It is erased immediately and permanently. Pulse is built to comply with POPIA, South Africa's data protection act. Full policy: https://pulse-za.com/privacy

ABOUT THE SUMMARIES

Summaries are generated with AI from publicly published articles. They report only what the source says, keep figures, names and places exactly as published, and never add background the article didn't contain. Opinion pieces are summarised as what the author argues, not as fact. Some publishers may require a subscription to read the full article.

Every card links to the original. The publisher gets the click.

Free, and made in South Africa.
