About Volume Assist: Easy Buttons
Volume Assist adds easy volume buttons to your screen: clear + and − keys that you can make bigger and place exactly where your thumb rests. It is an assistive volume control for anyone who finds the small side keys hard to feel, reach or press, and a simple way to set up a phone or tablet for a parent or grandparent.
Side buttons are thin, close to the edge and often need a firm push. For people with stiff fingers, a tremor, a weak grip or low vision, that can turn a simple volume change into a struggle. On a tablet on a stand or a large phone used with one hand, the keys may also be out of reach. Volume Assist moves the volume control onto the screen, where a light tap is enough.
Simple to set up
• Switch the buttons on and allow Display over other apps.
• Two floating buttons, + and −, appear at the side of the screen and stay above every app.
• A tap changes media volume by one step, the same as the side keys.
• Drag them to the spot that feels most comfortable; they stay there, including after the screen rotates.
Easier to see and press
• Increase the button size so the keys are easy to hit.
• Raise the opacity for solid, clearly visible buttons, or lower it if you want them subtle.
• Choose a vertical column or a horizontal row, whichever fits the hand.
• A short vibration confirms each press; turn it off if you prefer.
• Show Android's own volume bar after each tap to see the level, or keep it hidden.
• Add a mute button for one-tap silence of media.
Every sound level without digging through Settings
• Hold a button to open a panel with a slider for each sound.
• Free: media and ring sliders, media mute and ringer mode (Sound, Vibrate or Silent).
• Premium adds sliders for alarm, call and notification volume.
Calm and predictable
• The buttons move aside when the keyboard opens and hide during full-screen video or games, then come back by themselves. Each behavior can be turned off.
• They can start automatically after the phone restarts, so a relative does not need to open the app again.
• Reset position brings the keys back to the right edge if they were moved by accident.
• Also included: a notification with −, + and Show/Hide, a Quick Settings tile and a home-screen widget.
Good for
• Older users and people with reduced hand strength or dexterity.
• One-handed use on a large phone.
• Tablets on a stand or in a kitchen holder.
• Phones whose side key is damaged or hard to press.
Premium, if you want it
Volume Assist is free and shows ads. Premium removes every ad, adds the alarm, call and notification sliders, and unlocks six extra colors, including a see-through Glass style, for the buttons and the widget. Pick monthly, yearly, or a lifetime one-time purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically and can be managed or cancelled at any time in Google Play.
Why each permission is needed
• Display over other apps: shows the floating buttons on top of other apps.
• Notifications (Android 13 or newer): for the control notification. The buttons still work without it.
• Do Not Disturb access: asked only if Silent is chosen, because Android counts Silent as part of Do Not Disturb. Sound and Vibrate never ask for it.
• Run at startup: starts the buttons after a reboot. Optional.
• Vibrate: the small buzz on each press. Optional.
• Internet: for ads, Google Play purchases, and anonymous crash reports and usage statistics.
Privacy
Despite its name, Volume Assist does not use Android's accessibility service. It needs no account and never reads your screen. Settings are kept on the device.
Please note
• The buttons change the normal system volume; they cannot make sound louder than the phone's maximum.
• Android hides floating buttons on a few system screens, such as permission requests.
• On phones that close background apps aggressively, the app guides you to keep the buttons running.
