About Мали пречник
“Mali prečnik” is simply an application in the form of a dictionary, where the user enters a foreign word, and it offers him several Serbian words or Serbo-Slavic coins.
The greatest inspiration for something like this certainly came from “Prečnik farnim ročimi i izrišima” by Milan Obradović. Some words were taken from Milan’s Prečnik, some taken from the Russian Chistorechi, some from the Internet, and some were invented.
The current state of the application is not yet the best - many words still need to be added, some word explanations are messy, there are certainly spelling errors, many Serbian words in place of foreign words are not quite appropriate (they stick out, or they don’t fit well enough), but this application should not be understood as a ready-made solution, but as a tool that could perhaps be used to move towards a solution. Anyone can add their own words, change existing ones, and so on. This will not become publicly visible, but only to him, but he can share it with others - by exporting his vocabulary.
In addition to foreign and Serbian words and new coins that can be changed, a smaller dictionary of Church Slavonic and Old Slavonic words is also offered in the appendix.
And there is one more thing. Language is a living thing and it is natural for words from one language and people to appear in another people, and there are generally no problems with that. So we should beware of this closed-mindedness - that everything that is only ours is the best, the most perfect, and that others are no good and the like. Far from it. In every people there is both wheat and tares and we are no better or worse than other peoples in this respect. The one to whom more is given, more is expected of him. Some people get a comfortable home and all the conditions, and someone is born in a stone, a desert, etc. Perhaps outwardly, we look more like those born in stone and desert (although that's not really true either, but we will agree that there are countries that are more technologically developed and more comfortable for living), but one would say that from a spiritual perspective, when you look at whose descendants we are, you would still say that we were born here in spiritual silk and velvet that is rarely found anywhere else in the universe. Therefore, as the people of Saint Sava, Saint Bishop Nicholas, Abba Justin, Patriarch Paul, Father Thaddeus of Vitovt, the Holy Serbian Martyrs, from Slavonia, Dalmatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Metohija, Montenegro, Southern Serbia, and all the regions where Serbs have lived since time immemorial, perhaps it is not right for us to hand over precious spiritual, folk, written, and spiritual gold, tried and tested in a hundred fires, for some cheap novelties, which will only be seen in the age of revelation that will certainly come, perhaps sooner, perhaps later, but certainly it will, and where it will be shown, as always before, what was real, and what was wrapped in decorative paper and empty inside.
The application is free, without ads and without analytics.
The goal of "Small Diameter" is not to impose words, but to encourage reflection on the depth, beauty, and possibilities of the Serbian language.
