About Chiken R0ad
Reading the water after dark is a real skill, and it comes down to a handful of coloured
lights on a black horizon. This is a trainer and a field reference for exactly that: what a
vessel's cluster of lights tells you about her type β¨οΈ, her size, which way she is pointing and
what she is doing β and who gives way when the two of you are closing.
Its centrepiece is the aspect rose. A contact appears on a dark horizon and you turn the rose
until the cluster it predicts matches the one you can actually see π. The rose is not hiding an
answer: turning it turns the vessel and redraws her lights through their real arcs of
visibility, so a sidelight winks out at exactly the bearing it should. Call her aspect, name
the vessel, then take the encounter onto a relative-motion plot: drag β your own course and
speed β‘, watch π the closest point of approach and the time β±οΈ to reach it recompute live, choose
your action and run it forward to see π whether it actually worked.
Around that sit the workbenches and the reference. Rig a vessel's lights yourself and watch π
each one paint its true arc, with any blind bearing called out. Play βΆοΈ or build π¨ any light
character to real timing and drill your ear for rhythm on the timing strip. Browse the IALA
buoyage yard with a Region A/B switch that flips every mark at once, work through the flag
locker and compose a hoist that reads itself back, decode chart π abbreviations token by token,
and read Rules 5 to 19 in plain English with the common mistake spelled out. Everything you
get wrong β lands in a spaced review queue together with the exact confusion you made, and you
can keep your own sighting log π β optionally with a photo πΈ of the mark you actually passed.
Built for boaters, students working toward a certificate, and anyone who wants to stop
guessing at what those lights mean. Everything works offline π΄, and nothing you record leaves
your device π±. It is a training and reference aid, not a navigation instrument, and it never
replaces a proper lookout, an official rule book π or an up-to-date chart π.
