About Cricket Voice Synth
What if you could design an insect that never existed—and hear it sing into the night?
Cricket Voice Synth is a procedural bioacoustic synthesizer, insect sound generator, and 2D spatial soundscape mixer for crickets and wing-stridulating insects.
This is not a sampler. Every sound is synthesized in real time from stridulation: a scraper striking teeth on a wing file, exciting resonant membranes.
◆ Procedural Bioacoustic Synthesis
Every chirp, trill, and rasp is generated in real time—without audio samples or loops.
Adjust the parameters that shape its voice:
• Membrane tension & mirror area — shape pitch and resonance.
• Wing file tooth density — shape friction from whistles to rasps.
• Material resonance & damping — control tone.
• Stroke speed, duration & pressure — control wing interaction.
• Biological motion jitter — add natural timing variation.
◆ Natural Ambience for Sleep, Focus & Relaxation
Create an ever-changing chorus of singing insects:
• Non-Repeating Sound — Real-time synthesis avoids conventional loops.
• Sleep & Relaxation — Create gentle nighttime ambience.
• Focus & Study — Use rhythmic or continuous insect textures as background sound.
• 100% Offline — Everything runs locally, with no streaming or large audio libraries.
◆ Build a Living 2D Soundscape
Place multiple insects across an interactive 2D spatial field:
• Stereo panning, distance attenuation, and air absorption.
• Ambient reverberation and proximity control.
• Drag insects to position them, or long-press to introduce new callers.
From a solitary cricket to a dense nighttime chorus. Headphones recommended.
◆ Design Your Own Insect
Start with a real species, modify it, or invent an acoustic creature that could never exist.
• Touch Curve Editors — Draw stroke velocity and pitch curves.
• Song Sequencer — Combine calls into complete songs.
• Syllable Control — Adjust counts, durations, rests, and repetition cycles.
• Biological Variation — Add subtle timing changes for organic performances.
You are not simply changing a sound. You are designing the mechanism that creates it.
◆ 10 Authentic Species Presets
Explore real singing crickets and katydids:
• Emma Field Cricket (Teleogryllus emma) — Calling, Courtship, and Rivalry songs.
• Bell Cricket / Suzumushi (Meloimorpha japonica) — Silver-bell resonance.
• Pine Cricket / Matsumushi (Xenogryllus marmoratus) — Melodic rhythms.
• Tree Cricket / Kantan (Oecanthus longicauda) — Delicate flute-like trill.
• Japanese Katydid / Kirigiris (Gampsocleis buergeri) — Sharp, rasping calls.
• Giant Katydid / Kutsuwamushi (Mecopoda nipponensis) — Heavy, clattering friction.
• Conehead Katydid / Umaoi (Hexacentrus japonicus) — Pitch glides and snaps.
• Meadow Katydid / Kusakiri (Ruspolia nitidula) — Continuous late-night drone.
• Broad-winged Bush Cricket (Truljalia hibinonis) — Metallic treetop pulses.
• Small Bell Cricket (Ornebius kanetataki) — Solitary bell-like strikes.
◆ 16-Bit WAV Audio Export
Export custom insects or complete 2D soundscapes to 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV files.
Royalty-free use for:
• Game audio, Foley, and ambient SFX
• Podcasts, videos, and multimedia
• Ambient music, relaxation, and meditation
• Bioacoustics and education
◆ The Culture of Insect Listening
For centuries, singing insects have enchanted cultures around the world. In Japan, "mushi-kiki" (insect listening) celebrates seasonal insect voices.
◆ A Note from the Developer
To human ears, an insect's song may sound like peaceful autumn ambience.
But in the living world, every call is a signal sent into the darkness—a declaration that consumes energy and may attract predators.
The Emma Field Cricket preset explores three chapters: Calling, Courtship, and Rivalry—solitude, love, and territorial battle.
Cricket Voice Synth was born from a fascination with these tiny voices and their physical mechanisms.
Listen closely—there is a whole world inside an insect's song.
