About RubyDict: Japanese Dictionary

RubyDict is a Japanese dictionary built for people who actually study Japanese. Search words, kanji and grammar offline, tap any word you meet to look it up, and keep the ones you want to remember in a review deck that brings them back before you forget. THE DICTIONARY • Full offline search for vocabulary, kanji and grammar — no internet, no account needed • Look up a word by typing Japanese, kana, romaji or your own language • Draw a kanji you cannot type and search by handwriting • Point your camera at a menu, sign or textbook page and tap a word to look it up • Conjugated words are traced back to their dictionary form automatically • Word entries: readings, alternate forms, every meaning, the kanji inside the word, example sentences • Kanji entries: radicals, components, on/kun readings with examples, animated stroke order and a writing pad • Grammar entries: usage, structure and examples with furigana • Example sentences from Tatoeba, furigana you can toggle, and natural audio in a male or female voice STUDY IN 14 LANGUAGES The interface and the definitions are available in English, Vietnamese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Filipino, Nepali, Portuguese, Indonesian, Burmese, Hindi, Thai, Bangla and Urdu. Download your language pack once and search entirely offline in it. REMEMBER WHAT YOU LOOK UP • Star any word, kanji or grammar point to add it to your deck • A five-box spaced repetition system schedules reviews at 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 days • Sessions mix flashcards, quizzes and kanji handwriting • Set a daily goal and a JLPT level, and see what is due from the home screen READING AND LISTENING • 423 illustrated short stories with narration and comprehension quizzes • Japanese news in a normal and an easy version • Import your own PDF, EPUB, DOCX, HTML or text files and read them with tap-to-look-up • Every page can be read aloud SPEAKING PRACTICE — SHADOWING Choose a topic and a level, or paste your own Japanese text, and practise out loud. The app reads a sentence, listens to you, scores your pronunciation on device and answers you in Japanese. A guided reading mode scrolls the text like a teleprompter. LEARN THROUGH A STORY A branching visual novel set in Japan: follow Alex through life in a new country, make choices, hear the lines voiced, and tap any word in the dialogue to look it up. FREE AND FULL VERSION Almost everything above is free, with no account required: the dictionary, OCR, handwriting search, example sentences, audio, reading, news, shadowing and the first story chapters. Sign in to sync favourites and review progress across devices. One single purchase — no subscription, ever — unlocks: • 50 full JLPT mock exams, 10 for each level from N5 to N1, including the listening sections • Challenges: month-long study plans for vocabulary, kanji or grammar with a paced schedule • The later chapters of the story game The purchase is tied to your RubyDict account rather than to one device, so it follows you to any phone you sign in on. Restore Purchases is available on the purchase screen. RubyDict shows ads. They keep the dictionary, the reading library and shadowing free for everyone, and they stay out of the way: small banners only, never over a button you are about to tap. The full version does not remove them.
