About PowerCue Companion
PowerCue Companion turns your iPhone or iPad into a wireless teleprompter screen for PowerCue on your Mac. Open the app on the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac and your script appears instantly. The companion stays in perfect lock-step with PowerCue: the same line breaks, the same styling, the same paragraph spacing, the same karaoke highlight, the same timer. And it keeps the scripts it is shown, so you can prompt with no Mac around. TAKE THE SCRIPT WITH YOU The scripts your Mac shows the device stay on it, listed on the first screen. Tap one and the device prompts it by itself. Follow listens with the device's own microphone and moves the text with your voice, smoothly or line by line, lighting the word you say. Play rolls the text at your pace, and the Width row sets the column's width. Under each script the app says if Follow is ready for its language, so you know before the shoot. If your Mac drops out mid-reading, the text stays where it is, and a device whose microphone was already listening carries on by itself. When the Mac is back, one tap on Connect hands the reading back. FOLLOWS YOUR VOICE PowerCue listens as you read and keeps the next line at the marker. Pause and it waits for you. Ad-lib and it picks you up at your next written line. Stumble and start the line again, and it jumps back to it. The companion screen scrolls right along with it, and rolls evenly when your Mac plays. CONTROL THE PROMPTER FROM THE PHONE Tap the screen to show or hide the on-screen controls: start and stop voice following, play and pause the timed scroll, go back to the top, and jump to the previous or next marker. Scroll the script by hand and PowerCue on the Mac follows your finger, then picks up listening from wherever you stopped. A keyboard or a Bluetooth pedal works too: Space plays, Return follows, the arrows scroll. USE THE PHONE AS THE MICROPHONE Pick "iPhone/iPad Microphone" in PowerCue and the device in front of you drives the voice following. Speech is recognized entirely on the device, by Apple's newest on-device engine, which needs nothing more than the microphone permission. If a call takes the microphone, PowerCue on the Mac is told, and listening resumes on its own. SEE YOUR FRAMING While the device mirrors your Mac it can show the Mac's camera behind the text. It is a small preview for checking your framing. The Mac's camera switches on for the device that shows it, and the camera button in the controls turns it off. The picture is best on a recent iPhone or iPad and good Wi-Fi. Where it is slow, the app says so. MADE FOR REAL SHOOTS • Pinch to resize the text without changing the line breaks • Karaoke highlight as colored text or a pill, matching the Mac • On-screen timer, mirrored from the Mac, or the device's own when it prompts alone • Marker buttons, and a marker list when it prompts alone • Mirror flips for beam-splitter rigs • Marker arrow on the left or the right, sized like the Mac's • Stays awake while it is the prompter • Ping from the Mac to find the right device • Reconnects on its own when you come back PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything happens on your device and over your local network. The scripts the device keeps stay on the device, are left out of backups, and are deleted with a swipe. Your script, your voice, and your audio are never uploaded anywhere. Apple's speech model for a language downloads once, and nothing of yours is sent for it. WHAT NEEDS POWERCUE 1.0.28 The camera behind the text, script names, several scripts per Mac (the 20 most recent stay), and the marker buttons and list without the Mac come with PowerCue 1.0.28. Until your Mac has it, the device keeps the last script from each Mac, and everything else works. REQUIRES POWERCUE FOR MAC PowerCue Companion is free. Your own scripts come from PowerCue, the voice-following teleprompter for macOS, available at rafaelludwig.com/apps/powercue. A short sample script is built in, so you can try Follow and Play before you connect a Mac.
What’s new
Version 1.0.8 · Updated October 8, 2026
Take the script with you. • Scripts stay on your iPhone or iPad: the device keeps the scripts your Mac shows it, so you can prompt with no Mac around. • Follow and Play without the Mac: Follow listens with the device's own microphone and moves the text with your voice, Smooth or Line by line. Play rolls it at your pace. A short sample script is included, so you can try it right away. • Your own text width: when the device prompts by itself, the Width row in the controls makes the text narrower or wider, and the line you are on stays where it is. The width is kept with each script. • Your Mac plays, the device rolls with it: the text moves as evenly as the Mac's and no longer steps a line at a time. • Your Mac drops out in the middle of a reading: the text stays. If the device's microphone was already listening, it carries on by itself. • Your Mac's camera behind the text: check your framing while you read from the device. The Mac's camera switches on for it. The picture is at its best on a recent iPhone or iPad and good Wi-Fi. Where it is slow the app says so, with a button that turns the camera off. Also new: a timer of its own, a keyboard or a Bluetooth pedal, and a line under each script that says whether Follow is ready for its language. On the Mac: the camera, script names, several scripts per Mac (the 20 most recent stay), and the marker buttons and marker list without the Mac come with PowerCue 1.0.28. Until your Mac has it, the device keeps the last script from each Mac, and everything else here works. Your scripts and your voice stay on your device and your local network. Nothing is uploaded.
