About Aurora Forecast Alerts - Blika
Should you go outside tonight? That is the only question an aurora app needs to answer, and almost none of them do. They show you a Kp number and a coloured map of the planet, and leave you to work out what it means for the sky above your head. Blika gives you one answer, and tells you exactly what it rests on. GO NOW · KEEP AN EYE OUT · NOT TONIGHT Three verdicts, never a score out of 100. A number invites you to argue with it. A verdict tells you which factor is the binding one — and that is the thing that actually changes your evening. IT KNOWS WHAT TIME IT IS Open it at two in the afternoon and Blika does not pretend it is night. The sky behind the answer is the one you are under — daylight, dusk, twilight, dark — and the answer has two halves: Now, the live reading, and Tonight, the forecast for the coming night. THE THREE THINGS THAT DECIDE IT Aurora activity. Blika reads NOAA's OVATION model at your grid square, not a national average. A storm over Iceland is not a storm over you. Cloud cover. The factor most aurora apps leave out entirely, and the one that ruins most chases. A 90% aurora probability under thick overcast is a wasted drive at two in the morning, and Blika will say so. Darkness. The sun has to be far enough below the horizon. In summer, at high latitude, it often simply is not — and an app that alerts you anyway is wasting your attention. Bright moonlight is flagged too — it washes out a faint display. ONE PAYMENT. NOT A SUBSCRIPTION. Most aurora and weather apps bill you every week. Blika asks once. The verdict and its three reasons are free, forever, with no account and no ads. A single one-time purchase unlocks the dashboard and the Home Screen widget, and that is the only thing Blika will ever charge you for. BUILD YOUR OWN DASHBOARD Eight cards. You pick which ones appear and in what order, because the chaser who watches Bz and the photographer who watches the moon should not be handed the same screen. · Aurora overhead — OVATION probability at your 1° grid square · Kp index — the number everyone quotes, as context, never as the verdict · Cloud cover — for the hour in question · Moon — illumination and phase · Tonight's window — the stretch when it is both dark enough and clear enough · Solar wind — speed and Bz from DSCOVR, because a southward Bz is what opens the door · Darkness — sun elevation across the night, twilight bands marked · Next three nights — which are clear and dark A Home Screen widget comes with it: the verdict, the reason deciding it, and a sky that follows the evening on its own. WHAT BLIKA WILL NOT DO It will not tell you conditions are good when they are not. It will not send you an alert because a number crossed a threshold on the other side of the planet. Aurora activity is not forecast days ahead by anyone, so Blika does not pretend to. The three-night outlook covers cloud and darkness — the two things that genuinely are forecast that far — and says so on its face. BUILT SMALL, ON PURPOSE One screen. No account. No feed. No streaks. Open it, read the answer, close it. The sky behind the verdict is not decoration. After dark the aurora brightens, and more curtains light up, as the actual reading rises — so a quiet night looks like a quiet night before you have read a word. Sources are shown on screen: aurora activity and solar wind from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, cloud cover from Open-Meteo. All public data, and Blika tells you when a reading is stale rather than quietly showing you yesterday's sky. FOR Anyone who has driven an hour to stand under cloud. Photographers planning a shoot. Anyone far enough north that it is worth checking, or travelling somewhere it might be. Blika is made by one person. If it gets something wrong, the reasons are on the screen — tell me which one was off. Privacy: https://blika.app/privacy/ Terms: https://blika.app/terms/
What’s new
Version 1.1 · Updated September 26, 2026
New: Clear sky nearby. When cloud is what rules out the aurora where you are, Blika searches about 90 miles around, finds the nearest clear spot you can actually drive to, names it and opens directions. Each reason under the verdict now also draws the figure it rests on.
