AuroraChaser: Northern Lights

Know when to look up. Built exclusively for Northern Norway and Svalbard, AuroraChaser brings live aurora activity, cloud cover, darkness, moonlight and light pollution together in one simple Aurora Score. See when conditions look best and where to go, with 124 hand-picked viewing spots. One score for a clearer picture: Here in the far north, the northern lights can be overhead even when the Kp index is just 0 to 2. Kp alone doesn't tell the whole story. Clear skies, darkness and your viewing location often matter more. Our aurora algorithm combines these conditions into a score from 0 to 100 for each individual spot: • Live aurora probability from NOAA's OVATION model, looking toward the auroral oval as well as overhead • Local cloud cover from MET Norway • Darkness based on the sun's position, including polar night • Moonlight and its effect on aurora visibility • Light pollution at each location Built on years of aurora camera records, the score shows your chance of seeing the lights with your own eyes. Explore spots around Tromsø, Lofoten, Alta, Senja, Harstad, Narvik, Bodø, Kirkenes, Svalbard, Nordkapp and Hammerfest, Vesterålen, Lyngenfjord, Varanger and Finnmarksvidda. Find your spot: • Plan tonight with the peak score, best viewing window and best spot at a glance • Open directions in your maps app with one tap, with distance and drive time shown • Explore a live map of the auroral oval and every spot's score • Check the hourly clear sky forecast, the 3-day Kp forecast and a 14-day chance forecast • View live webcams before you set off Catch the activity: A live magnetometer indicator shows when aurora activity picks up over the region, using current measurements. Set custom alerts for high aurora activity and solar storms, or get a daily forecast at 18:00. Set quiet hours to suit your plans and turn off any notifications you don't want to receive. Share the chase: • Post a sighting note and photo from the spot where you saw the lights • Create a chase group with travel companions, with a shared feed and group leaderboard • Browse community photos and recent sightings at each spot • Frame your photos with your mascot, location and time • Collect stamps, dress up your mascot and join weekly, monthly, season and trip leaderboards Stay informed, even offline: Lost your signal in a fjord? AuroraChaser keeps working with saved data and shows how old it is. When data is missing, the score is marked "Estimated" and alerts pause, so missing information isn't mistaken for clear skies. Made for travelers: • Free to use, with no sign-up. Your device is your account. • Available in English, Norwegian, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese • No third-party ad networks or tracking SDKs.
