About Fretwise: Guitar Scales
Fretwise turns guitar theory into something you can see, hear and play, right on the fretboard. Whether you're learning your first scale or mapping CAGED chord shapes across the whole neck, Fretwise shows exactly where every note lives, plays it with a realistic plucked-string sound, and helps you turn theory into muscle memory. SCALES & MODES • 22 scales and modes in all 12 keys: major, natural, harmonic and melodic minor, the 7 diatonic modes (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian), pentatonic and blues scales, diminished and Lydian Augmented, and exotic scales like Hungarian Minor and the Altered Scale • Five CAGED positions for every scale, in standard or compact framing • Show notes, scale degrees, fingers or dots, in sharps or flats, spelled correctly for every key • Target tones highlight each scale's own chord tones CHORDS • 23 chord types: triads, 7ths, suspended and extended chords • Up to five CAGED shapes per chord, in every key, with fingerings • Tap any voicing to hear it strummed CHORD & SCALE FINDER (PRO) • Tap the frets of any shape and Fretwise names the chord, with its inversion or slash bass • Tap notes on the neck and see every scale that contains them, tightest fit first PROGRESSION BUILDER (PRO) • Build a chord progression, give each chord its own length in beats, set the tempo, and loop it with a click in 4/4 or 3/4 • Start from 51 genre loops, from blues and jazz to flamenco, lo-fi and metal, then save your own progressions and open them again THEORY LAB (PRO) • Seven short lessons on one movable picture each: intervals, modes by brightness, comparing scales, building chords, which scales fit over a chord, and the circle of fifths • Songwriter Handbook: the diatonic chords of any key, filtered by mood and tension MAQAM & MAKAM • 8 Arabic maqamat and 9 Turkish makamlar on the guitar neck, including the quarter tones and commas that fall between the frets • Authentic view shows where each pitch truly lies; Standard view shows the fret to play and how far to bend • Ajnas and çeşniler, sayr and seyir, an example phrase for every mode, five-fret positions, a tonic picker and a one-string layout ALSO • Name the Note: a fretboard game that trains your ear and your memory • 7 tunings: Standard, Drop D, Half-Step Down, D Standard, Open D, Open G and DADGAD • Note names as letters or solfège (Do Re Mi), and a switch for which string is drawn on top • Available in English, Spanish, Turkish, French, German, Arabic, Russian, Italian and Portuguese • Favorites: save the scales, chords and positions you use most Fretwise Pro is an optional one-time purchase, not a subscription: it adds the Chord & Scale Finder, the Progression Builder, the Theory Lab and the Songwriter Handbook, and removes ads. Whether you're a beginner learning your first scale shapes or an experienced player filling in the gaps in your theory, Fretwise helps you see the fretboard the way music theory describes it.
