About Safari Companion: Field Guide
Every unforgettable safari begins long before your first game drive - and Safari Companion is with you the whole way. Part trip planner, part field journal, Safari Companion helps you prepare for your adventure and capture every sighting, all from a calm, beautiful app that works completely offline out in the bush. PREPARE WITH CONFIDENCE Get a curated, region-aware checklist tailored to the exact park you're visiting - documents, health and malaria reminders, smart packing, and before-you-go essentials. It even surfaces the details that catch travelers out, from tsetse-fly clothing tips to the altitude and cold on the Ngorongoro Crater rim. You can even add your own things to remember like camera battery or favorite book. TRACK EVERY SIGHTING Chase the Big Five with a live progress tracker, and log any animal with a single tap. Each park comes with its own species list - big game, antelope and small game, birds, and reptiles - with around 35 to 40 animals to look for. Every species includes a field-ID tip, its Swahili name so you can call it out to your guide, and real field photographs. RELIVE THE JOURNEY When you're home, your Trip Recap gathers it all into a keepsake: summary stats, your Big Five status, prep progress, and the full list of everything you saw. FEATURES - Region-aware prep checklist, tailored per park - Big Five progress tracker - One-tap sighting logging - 57 species with 147 real field photographs, credited in an in-app Credits screen - A field-ID tip and Swahili name for every species - Swipeable photo carousels in each species detail view - Trip Recap keepsake - 7 iconic parks across South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, and Botswana PARKS INCLUDED Kruger (South Africa) · Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and Ngorongoro Crater (Tanzania) · Maasai Mara (Kenya) · Okavango Delta (Botswana) FREE VS PRO Safari Companion is free to download and free to use on your first trip. - Free: sighting logging, Big Five tracking, the full prep checklist, one best photo and ID tip per species, one park per trip, and one trip. - Pro (one-time €4.99 - not a subscription): multi-photo carousels with extra views per species, combine several parks in a single trip, unlimited trips, and the full Trip Recap with a share feature. Unlock Pro once and it's yours to keep. No subscription, ever. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Safari Companion works entirely offline, on your device. There's no account and no login, and no network connection is required - ideal for remote camps with no signal. It asks for no permissions: no camera, no GPS, no photo access. Your trip data stays on your phone, and we collect no personal data - the only thing that ever leaves your device is a purchase, handled securely by Apple. Pack your bags. Safari Companion takes care of the rest. Welcome to Safari Companion 1.1. Plan your trip with a park-tailored prep checklist, track the Big Five and log every sighting with one tap, and browse 57 species with real field photos, ID tips, and Swahili names - all fully offline. What’s new
Version 1.2.0 · Updated August 14, 2026
Ten new parks - and a checklist that now matches where you're actually going. NEW PARKS Addo Elephant, Madikwe and Pilanesberg (South Africa), Amboseli and Samburu (Kenya), Chobe (Botswana), Hwange (Zimbabwe), South Luangwa (Zambia), Etosha and Damaraland (Namibia). That brings Safari Companion to 17 parks across 7 countries. BUILT AROUND YOUR PARK Your species goal is now sized to the park you picked, so a Damaraland trip no longer asks you to find animals that don't live there. EASIER TO PICK The park list is grouped by country — find yours at a glance instead of scrolling past everywhere else. MORE PHOTOS Gemsbok, springbok, hartebeest, gerenuk and puku now have full photo sets, bringing the guide to 61 species and 161 photos. FIXES • Swiping between photos in a species card now works. • The keyboard no longer covers what you're typing on Android. • Picking a park or a date now closes the keyboard.
