Safe Rio

Heading to Rio de Janeiro? Enjoy it without second-guessing every street. Rio is unforgettable — and like any big city, some areas are best skipped. Safe Rio gives you a quiet heads-up before you get close to one, so you can take another route and get back to enjoying your trip. HOW IT WORKS • Install it and allow location access. Choose “Always” so it can work while your phone stays in your pocket. • Explore as you planned. Keep using Google Maps, Waze or Uber — Safe Rio runs quietly in the background. • When you approach a mapped risk area, you get a sound and visual alert, with time to take another route. WHY TRAVELERS LIKE IT • Over 400 mapped risk areas, updated monthly. • Alerts you can tune: choose how early you are warned, which sound plays and how often it repeats. • Works alongside your navigation app, with nothing to keep open. • Available in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. WHAT SAFE RIO IS — AND ISN'T It is a heads-up for areas mapped in advance, and an extra layer of awareness while you explore. It isn't a live crime or incident feed, a guarantee of safety, or a replacement for common sense and local advice. GOOD TO KNOW • Location (GPS) and notifications need to be on for alerts to work, and you need an internet connection to receive them accurately. • Continued use of GPS running in the background can decrease battery life. • An active plan is required to use alerts. Plans are available as in-app purchases. Questions? Write to us at [email protected].
