About Vocare: Vocabulary from Books
Vocare turns real reading into vocabulary you keep. Photograph any page - a book, a comic, your notes - tap one word or a short expression, and Vocare makes a flashcard: a clear meaning, a natural example sentence, and multiple-choice practice. Then it schedules the card for spaced review so the word actually sticks. CAPTURE FROM ANYWHERE - Snap a page with the camera and tap the words you don't know - Import a highlighted PDF - Share a highlight straight from Kindle, Apple Books, or any app via the share sheet FREE AND ON-DEVICE Basic card generation runs on your iPhone with Apple's built-in models. No account. No subscription. It works offline. YOUR OWN KEYS, IF YOU WANT Prefer richer cards - illustrations, natural spoken audio, a specific text model? Add your own API key per feature. Any usage bills to your provider account - Vocare adds nothing. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your decks and cards stay on your device and sync only through your own iCloud. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs. BUILT FOR REAL REVIEW - Multiple-choice that graduates to typed recall - with a letter-by-letter diff when your answer is close - Spaced repetition scheduling (FSRS) - Study themes: reading-first, speak-it-out, imagery, cloze focus - Clean example sentences in your language pair - A progress dashboard per language - what's due, how well words are sticking - Deck and card management, with delete and restore - A two-minute guided tour builds your first card with you NINE LANGUAGES, ANY PAIR Italian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, English. Study packs - ready-made decks built from great books - are coming in a future update.
What’s new
Version 1.1 · Updated September 21, 2026
Smaller, but the fixes you noticed. The "Save again" duplicate button is clearer and easier to hit. You can now swipe back from the edge to leave the review screen and card detail. And your deck search has a Duplicates filter — tap it to see only the words with more than one card.
