About Pyxen - Python Game Maker
Pyxen is a Python game programming studio. Build games, tap Share, and anyone can play them in their browser. Design sprites, animate them, write code, and debug — all in one app. Pyxen is designed for beginners and experienced programmers alike. It stays simple on the surface, while offering powerful systems underneath. HOME SCREEN • Pyxen opens to a home screen, not a file browser — Continue, Examples and Snippets, each with a cover taken from the game itself • 74 snippets, grouped by what they do rather than by how hard they are Somewhere to start, every time you open the app. INSTANT SHARE • Tap Share and get a playable link — anyone can play your game in their browser. • No account needed — just tap, share, done. • Or export a web archive to host on itch.io or your own site. Your games live outside the app. SPRITE EDITOR & ANIMATION • Draw and edit sprites with pixel-perfect tools • Layers, selection tools, symmetry, flip/rotate, clipboard • Animation timeline — name your animations, set FPS, preview with onion skin • Paint pixel art and see changes instantly in your running game Design your game art and animations without leaving the app. SMOOTH MOTION & ANIMATION • Tween any property — position, scale, rotation, alpha — with 16 easing functions • Oscillate and spin for continuous effects • Sprite animations play from tile sheets: Sprite("hero", animation="walk") • Draw shapes — rectangles, circles, lines, polylines — from code Animate everything, from characters to UI. CODE EDITOR • Syntax highlighting and smart indentation • Context-aware autocomplete • Jump to Symbol — navigate your project instantly • Jump to Definition — tap any function to see its source • Word-wise navigation with Option+Arrow Write real code, not blocks. A SMALL, FOCUSED GAME ENGINE • High-performance C++ ECS core • Clean, beginner-friendly Python API • Scene graph with layers and parent-child hierarchy • Grid-based collision system • Save and load game data with the storage API • Configurable resolution — 160×90, 320×180, or 480×270 Built to be learned, not hidden. BUILT-IN FONT EDITOR • Create bitmap fonts from system or custom fonts • Configure character sets, size, and anti-aliasing • Live atlas preview — see exactly what ships with your game • Use the Text component to render text in your games No external tools needed for text rendering. INSPECTION & DEBUGGING • Rewind time and inspect previous frames • Explore entities and components live • Scene outliner and inspector cards • Visual tools to understand state and behavior Learn by seeing, not guessing. LEARN FROM REAL GAMES • Sample games with full source code — Pong, Platformer, Dungeon Survivors • Public-domain pixel art asset packs included YOUR DATA, ALWAYS YOURS • Pyxen works 100% offline • No account required, no ads, no tracking Projects are regular files, compatible with iCloud and the Files app. There's no proprietary cloud lock-in — your creations are yours. FREE TO EVALUATE Pyxen is free to download and evaluate, with no time limit. You can make three projects for free, as big as you like — there is no cap on scripts, images, sounds or tilemaps inside them. Projects you already have always open and stay editable. Games you share carry an evaluation watermark. A single one-time purchase lifts every limit, forever. No subscriptions. Quiet, capable, and yours.
What’s new
Version 26.6.1 · Updated October 20, 2026
Pyxen 26.6.1 — fixes for snippets and your projects. - Five snippets, among them the first one on the home screen, "start() / update()", wouldn't open: Pyxen said a folder didn't exist. They open as projects now, named after the snippet. - Continue shows each project once, with its cover and Delete. - A project you delete or rename in Pyxen no longer stays in Continue as "Can't find this one" or under its old name. - The home screen counts your projects correctly as soon as it opens. - The Game of Life sample runs again. - Your existing projects are unchanged.
