The Check

Ever been hit with a surprise service charge at checkout? Or faced a tip screen starting at 25% with no lower option? You're not overreacting. And you're not alone. TheCheck is like Google Maps for checkout experiences. A community-driven map where real people report what they actually paid at restaurants, bars, cafes, and more — so you know what to expect before you walk in the door. HOW IT WORKS • Search any restaurant, bar, or cafe — find it on the map or search by name • Read real checkout experiences — what fees did people find? How pushy was the tip screen? • See color-coded pins — green means low risk, red means watch out • Decide if it's right for you — no judgment, you get to choose what works for you • Share your own experience — help the next person, it only takes 30 seconds WHAT YOU'LL FIND • Hidden fees: service charges, kitchen fees, health surcharges, auto-gratuity — with exact amounts • Tip pressure levels: from "no pressure" to "mandatory" on a clear 6-point scale • Star ratings and comments from real diners • Photos of receipts and menus • Fee and tip pressure scores for every establishment NO ACCOUNT NEEDED TO BROWSE Explore the entire map, read every report, and check any restaurant — all without creating an account. Sign in with Apple only when you're ready to submit your own report. BUILT FOR TRANSPARENCY We're not anti-tipping. We're not anti-restaurant. Running a business is hard, and workers deserve good pay. But you deserve to know what you're paying for before you sit down — not after. No shaming. No drama. Just transparency.
