About Ensoleil : ensoleillement 3D
Ensoleil measures how many hours of sunlight a house or apartment receives, taking into account the terrain and surrounding buildings. You read the sunlight from your window, on the floor you're interested in.
SIMULATE SUN EXPOSURE, INCLUDING OBSTACLES
Most tools draw the sun's path over an address. The drawing is accurate, and it ignores mountains or buildings across the street. A south-facing facade may receive no sunlight from December to February if something blocks its path.
Ensoleil reconstructs the terrain and buildings around the analyzed point, calculates the 360-degree solar shading, and then checks minute by minute whether the sun is visible or blocked. The result is displayed in hours of sunlight received.
A measured example: at the same address, on December 21st, a ground floor apartment receives 1 hour and 18 minutes of sunlight, while the first floor receives 3 hours and 6 minutes.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
3D map and real shadows. Ensoleil reconstructs the neighborhood from official records. Drag the time: the shadows of buildings, trees, and terrain move in front of you.
Floor by floor. Choose the height to analyze, then compare a ground floor to a third floor.
The viewfinder. On-site, raise your phone: the sun's path is superimposed on the landscape, golden where it passes, gray where the terrain obscures it.
Several addresses side by side. Compare the exposure of two or three dwellings throughout the year, in winter and summer.
THE REPORT, FACADE BY FACADE
Each wall of a building receives its own sunlight. Ensoleil analyzes them one by one: orientation, obstacles in front of them, hours of sunlight on December 21st and June 21st. It identifies the best facade for you.
Each report contains a summary of the year and a clear verdict, the actual sunrise and sunset times compared to the theoretical times, the timelines of the solstices and equinoxes, a view of the neighborhood with the shadows for the analyzed day, the detailed sunlight exposure for each facade, and your signature on the first page.
Each report includes a shareable link. Your recipient opens it in their browser without installing anything.
WHO IS IT FOR, AND FOR WHAT PROJECT?
Before buying or renting. Visiting a house at 11 a.m. on a spring day says nothing about its January.
Real estate professionals. Attach a dated and sourced document to a listing, or provide it during showings, in your name.
A neighboring building. If a building has been erected in front of your house, the report quantifies the loss of sunlight, facade by facade.
Home improvement and gardening. Veranda, patio, swimming pool, vegetable garden, solar panels: measure the sunlight before you commit to spending money.
NO SUBSCRIPTION, AND PREMIUM
Without a subscription: address search, 3D map, real-time shadows, and daily sunlight exposure.
Premium, with a paid subscription: all dates of the year, winter and summer scores, solstices and equinoxes, viewfinder, unlimited detailed reports with a shareable link, and comparison of multiple addresses.
Subscriptions are available monthly or annually. The price is displayed in the app before any purchase, in your currency. You can cancel anytime from your Google Play account, with no commitment.
LIMITATIONS, AS STATED
Metropolitan France. Ensoleil relies on data from the French National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information (IGN), which stops at the country's borders. Beyond these areas, the application performs no calculations.
A decision-making tool. Ensoleil measures the terrain, buildings, and vegetation as they exist today. A building may be constructed, a tree may grow, or it may fall after your calculations.
No account, no ads. You don't choose a password. The application displays no ads and does not measure audience reach.
Ensoleil calculates the amount of sunshine and sun exposure for a house, apartment, plot of land, or garden, anywhere in metropolitan France.
