About Tell & Reply

Stuck in traffic, walking out of a meeting, sitting on a delayed train. Someone is waiting for you and needs a quick word. That is what Tell & Reply is for.

Instead of typing the same message over and over, you write it once as a template and leave the parts blank that change. When you send it, you only fill those gaps, with a tap instead of the keyboard.

Here is the idea: "Still in a meeting. I'll call you back in [in 20 minutes]." You pick the time span as you send. The rest is already written.

WHAT THE PLACEHOLDERS DO

- Date, time, date and time, day of the week
- Time spans such as "in 20 minutes" or "in 2 hours"
- Numbers with one to four digits, and amounts of money
- Location: city, street, postcode, full address, country
- Music: title, artist and album of the track that is playing
- The first name of the person you are writing to, filled in for you

The app picks up location and music itself when you ask it to. Every value can also be typed by hand, whether that is quicker or the lookup comes back empty.

PEOPLE AND GROUPS

You add contacts from your address book one at a time, through the system picker. The app never reads your address book and asks for no permission to do so.

If you keep messaging the same people, put them in a group.

SENDING

The finished message goes to your messaging app with recipients and text already in place. You take one last look and send it yourself. Or you hand it to any other app through the share sheet, a messenger for example.

Tell & Reply never sends anything on its own, which is why it does not ask for permission to send SMS.

YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU

Templates, contacts and groups live on your device. There is no account, no sign-in and no server holding your data. The app carries no ads and no analytics.

Android Backup brings your templates back on a new phone or after a reinstall.

FREE AND PRO

Three templates and sending to single contacts are free. Every placeholder, the location, the music and the backup are included without limits.

Tell & Reply Pro removes the template limit and unlocks sending to groups. One purchase, no subscription, nothing recurring.

LANGUAGES

English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

Tell & Reply is on iPhone too. Templates are built the same way in both versions.

What’s new

Version 1.1 · Updated September 11, 2026

Tell & Reply speaks French now. The location placeholder is called City, because a town is what it puts in. And you can rate the app straight from the info screen, without waiting to be asked.
