About Qubo
A falling-block puzzle laid out as a weekly paper, in green ink on cream newsprint. Before the first piece drops, a few words from its own vocabulary are worth knowing.
Forms — the eight original pieces, each made of two, three or five cells. Each one can be turned, and each one can be flipped into its mirror image.
Press — a charge that builds as you close rows. Release it and the lowest row on the board is pressed away.
Seals — marked blocks set into the filler rows of a puzzle. A puzzle counts as solved only once its line target is met and every seal has been broken.
Puzzles — 24 set pieces arranged in four parts, starting with First Rows and Buried Seals. Each gives a fixed number of pieces, and finishing with fewer brings up to three stars, 72 in all.
The Long Read — the endless mode with no last page. Every ten lines the pieces fall faster, and a records table lists your recent runs with the strongest one marked.
Deadline — two minutes at a brisk, fixed pace, with its own record to beat.
Geometry Column — twelve questions on cubes, polyhedra and tilings from 24 real facts, three options each and no timer, with a list of corrections at the end.
Six color inks, from Forest to Heather, open as you play and recolor every block, and fourteen honors sit on a roll with Roman numerals. The game works offline without an account, and haptics and the paper glare can be switched off in the Colophon.
