dian - Vocabulary Widget

dian is a vocabulary widget for people learning a language quietly, in the corners of an ordinary day.

Instead of a lesson to open and finish, dian sits on your home screen or lock screen and shows you one word at a time — in English, and in whichever language you're learning — for the moments you'd otherwise spend looking at nothing in particular. Waiting for a kettle. Standing on a platform. Between one thing and the next.

There's no lesson to complete, no streak to protect, and nothing that asks for your attention beyond what you give it by glancing over.

Choose one foreign language for free, or up to three from a set of ten:

Each word comes with its native script, romanization where useful, a definition, an example sentence, and audio pronunciation. Choose your own difficulty, from everyday vocabulary through to the sophisticated and rare, and the themes that interest you, from travel and food to business and nature.

dian has no ads. It doesn't gamify learning with points or badges, and it won't send notifications designed to bring you back. It's built for adults who already know how they want to spend their attention, and simply want a second language to sit quietly alongside it.
