Duty Span Watch Face

Duty Span is a watch face for Wear OS that shows where you are in your shift rota: your next shift, a live countdown to it, and the days ahead. Set it up once on your phone and it works out every day after that on its own - no internet and no account.

BEFORE YOU START

Duty Span needs the Watcholate Watch Faces app on your phone. Install it from Google Play, open Duty Span and tap Set up your rota. Until you do, the face shows a setup card instead of your shifts.

SET UP IN A MINUTE

- Pick your rota: 4 on 4 off, 2-2-3 (Panama), 7 on 7 off, 5 on 2 off or DuPont
- Set your own shift times: when each shift starts and ends, so the countdown matches your real hours
- Each shift is named by its start time - Day, Evening or Night - on your phone and on your wrist
- Say which day of the cycle today is, and check the next two weeks before you save
- Reset standard times in one tap

WHAT IT SHOWS

- The time, large, in 12-hour or 24-hour
- Your next shift and a live countdown to it; once you are on shift, a countdown to the end of it
- The shift's hours underneath
- The next four days as a strip, each with its date and whether it is a work day or a rest day
- A progress track: a check mark for each day behind you and a bright mark on the next shift

THREE CELLS YOU CHOOSE

The three cells along the top are standard Wear OS complication slots. They start with battery, steps and heart rate; change any of them in Customize to weather, sunset, calendar, timers or anything a third-party app publishes, or leave one empty. You can also put an app in a cell - pick App shortcut (Apps on Galaxy watches) - and its own icon sits there, one tap from opening.

SIX THEMES

Graphite, Slate, Ember, Sable, Fern and Tidewater. Touch and hold the face and tap Customize to change it.

ALWAYS-ON

A large, bright clock and the date - nothing about your rota and none of the cells, so a raised wrist shows nobody which nights you are away. It lights only a small part of the screen.

LIGHT ON THE BATTERY

Duty Span is built in Google's Watch Face Format and runs no code on your watch. Your watch is handed a schedule of what to show and when, so nothing runs in the background once your rota is saved.

PRIVACY

Duty Span is a personal planning aid, for reference only. It shows the rota and shift times you enter; it does not know your employer's official schedule, swapped shifts, overtime or public holidays. Always check your official roster, and do not rely on Duty Span alone to get to work on time - it is not an alarm. Health readings in the cells come from your watch's own sensors and are not for medical use.
