About Umbré: UV & Sunscreen Timer
Most people put sunscreen on once in the morning and never think about it again. Umbré is the part you forget. It reads the UV index where you are, works out what that means for your skin in particular, and tells you when to put more on. That is the whole app.
WHAT IT DOES
• Live UV for your location, and today's curve so you can see when it peaks
• How long skin like yours can take it — based on a short skin-type questionnaire, not an average
• A reapplication timer you start with one tap when you actually put sunscreen on
• Reminders you choose: a morning heads-up, peak UV, time to reapply, an evening summary
• A home-screen widget showing the current UV and your countdown, in two sizes
• A log of what you applied and how long you were outside, so you can see your own habits
BUILT FOR YOUR SKIN, NOT AVERAGE SKIN
The advice changes with your Fitzpatrick skin type. A person who burns in fifteen minutes and a person who rarely burns should not be told the same thing, and most apps tell them the same thing. The questionnaire takes about a minute and you can change your answer whenever you like.
NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE
There is no account and no sign-up. There is no server holding your information, because there is no server. Your skin type, your log and your settings live on your device and are deleted when you delete the app. The only thing that goes out on its own is a pair of map coordinates, sent to a weather service to ask what the UV is there. It carries no name and nothing from your log.
There is also a diagnostics screen that shows what the app can say about itself, with a button to send it if something goes wrong. It never sends anything by itself, it shows you the report first, and it contains no name, no age and no precise location.
FREE, AND STAYING FREE
No advertising. No subscription. No paid tier holding a feature back. It was built to be given away.
WHAT THIS APP IS NOT
Umbré gives general sun-safety guidance. It is not medical advice. It does not diagnose, treat or track any illness, and it cannot look at your skin.
Built by Stas Azarskyy and Tracy Xu.
