About Animated Neuroscience: Brain
A neuroscience app for students of psychology, biology, physiology, anatomy, nursing and pre-med, and for anyone curious how their nervous system works: ten moments in Noor's life, from neuron and synapse to the cortex.
TEN CHAPTERS OF NEUROSCIENCE
I. The Table Leg (free): Noor stubs her toe. Pain: nociceptors, the action potential, myelin, A-delta and C fibers, the dorsal horn, the withdrawal reflex and the brain's own pain control.
II. The Near Miss: a car door opens in front of her bike. Fear and stress: the amygdala, adrenaline, the HPA axis and cortisol, emotional memory.
III. The First Song: she learns Teta's melody on the piano. Motor learning: the motor cortex, the cerebellum, the basal ganglia, dopamine, LTP and sleep.
IV. The Smell of Cardamom: a jar of cardamom brings back Teta's kitchen. Smell and memory: olfactory neurons, the piriform cortex, the hippocampus, engrams.
V. Sami Forgets: her grandfather loses what happened an hour ago. Alzheimer's disease: the entorhinal cortex, amyloid, tau, synapse loss, microglia.
VI. The Button: after surgery on her broken ankle, she presses her pain-relief pump. Pain relief: local anaesthetics, COX, endorphins, the body's own pain control, tolerance.
VII. The Red-Eye: jet-lagged in her childhood bed, she is awake at 3 a.m. Sleep and the body clock: the suprachiasmatic nucleus, melatonin, adenosine and caffeine, orexin, REM sleep.
VIII. The Cup: at breakfast her mother's words come out wrong and the cup slips. Stroke: the penumbra, excitotoxicity, Broca's and Wernicke's areas, clot retrieval, recovery.
IX. The Dabke: at a wedding she is spun until the room turns. Senses and movement: the cochlea and hair cells, attention, the vestibular system, the muscle spindle.
X. The Walk to the Sea: her brother Yusuf, recovering from depression, asks her for a walk. Mood: serotonin and SSRIs, anhedonia, stress hormones, ketamine, twin studies.
Each chapter ends with a clinical what-if from neurology or psychiatry, from diabetic neuropathy to psychosis.
NEUROANATOMY YOU PLAY, NOT JUST READ
Told from inside Noor's central nervous system, you don't watch the signal travel. You carry it: hold a nerve ending until it reaches threshold, race a fast fiber against a slow one, drag the reflex through the spinal cord.
A CABINET OF SPECIMENS, EVERY CLAIM CITED
Every structure you meet becomes a 3D specimen in your Cabinet. Its card explains it and cites peer-reviewed research or a standard textbook; where the story simplifies, it says how. Study view shows which specimens teach each topic of a course outline you pick: medical school admission, high school psychology, nursing licensure and more.
SHORT RECALL QUIZZES, SPACED OVER DAYS
While you're away, Noor sleeps, and her hippocampus replays the day. When you come back, a short recall quiz brings back faded specimens. It is capped daily, so a missed day never piles up.
FREE TO START, ONE PURCHASE FOR THE REST
Chapter I is free and stays free, recall included. The Complete Edition is one purchase that unlocks Chapters II to X and every update to them. No subscription, no account. Or open any one chapter by watching two short videos. Videos play only when you choose one, and never for buyers. A purchase made on Google Play doesn't carry over to the App Store.
MADE WITH CARE
• Works offline. The narration for Chapters II to X downloads once from Google Play after you unlock them.
• No banners or pop-up ads; the only ads are the optional videos (Google AdMob). Anonymous usage counts can be turned off.
• Sound and haptics each switch off.
Animated Neuroscience is a study companion and a story. It isn't exam prep, it isn't a medical device, it doesn't diagnose or treat anything, and it isn't brain training. It won't make you smarter. It explains how your nervous system works.
What’s new
Version 1.2.4 · Updated October 23, 2026
New in 1.2.3: a second way to open a chapter. On the Complete Edition sheet you can now choose to watch two short videos to open the next sealed chapter for good on this device. The videos are optional, from Google AdMob, and play only when you tap for one: never during the story, a help card or recall, and never for buyers of the Complete Edition. No banners and no pop-up ads. Plus fixes and polish.
