Halal Scanner: Check

Halal Check is the halal scanner that shows its reasoning — halal or haram, and why, for the exact ingredient that decided it. The reason is free. Always.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
HOW IT WORKS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Scan a barcode and this ingredient checker looks the product up against millions of packaged foods. Every ingredient is checked against a reviewed, dated, sourced rules table — computed right there on your phone. The verdict names the one ingredient that decided it, quotes it straight off the label, and explains why in a single plain sentence.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
FOUR WAYS TO CHECK A PRODUCT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✓ Scan a barcode with the camera — the barcode scanner is free, every time
✓ Type a barcode in by hand
✓ Search by product name or brand
✓ Photograph the ingredients panel when nothing else finds it — any Latin-script language, read on your device, no upload (Halal Scanner Pro)

If a product isn't in the database yet, your photo becomes the record. What you add is saved for the next shopper who scans that barcode — marked "added by one shopper, unconfirmed" until a second, independent scan matches it.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
FOUR HONEST ANSWERS, NOT THREE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
A halal food scanner that gives four honest answers, not two:
✓ Halal (حلال)
✓ Doubtful (mushbooh) — genuinely disputed, and named as such
✓ Haram
✓ Not enough to say — when a word can't be identified, the app refuses rather than guesses

Every ruling carries its source body's name and last-reviewed date. This is what an ingredient checker looks like when it has to show its work.

JUDGED BY YOUR OWN SCHOOL
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Pick your branch — Sunni or Shia — then your school: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali or Ja'fari. Six switches cover the questions that recur: trace alcohol, animal rennet, ahl al-kitab slaughter, ambiguous emulsifiers, shellfish, transformed derivatives (istihala). Change one and every past verdict recomputes instantly — a Hanafi shopper and a Ja'fari shopper can read the same barcode differently, because they should.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHY THIS FOOD SCANNER IS DIFFERENT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
✓ The reason is free — always. The barcode scan, the verdict, the reason, the ingredient detail, product search and your profile settings stay free forever.
✓ No ads anywhere in the app. No account and no location permission required.
✓ "Doubtful" and "we don't know" are different states. Most apps collapse them into one.
✓ Every ruling is sourced and dated — check our working, don't just trust it.
✓ The verdict runs on your device from a rules table, not a black box.
✓ Halal Scanner Pro adds photographing a label, finding a product's ingredients online, and naming ingredients our offline list does not know. Everyone else gets three AI reads a month.

WHO IT'S FOR
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Muslim shoppers who want to know whether something is halal or haram before it's in the cart — standing in the aisle with a long ingredient list, an E-number they don't recognize, and no time to look it up. We built this halal scanner and ingredient checker to answer that one question, with a reason attached. It is a food checker for Muslim families, for households cooking for someone who keeps halal, and for anyone who wants to understand — not just be told — why an ingredient matters. Halal ou pas? The same halal food scanner answers in French, and in 15 languages in all.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
IMPORTANT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Halal Check is a reading aid for ingredient labels. It is not a certifying body and does not issue religious rulings. Always check the packet yourself, and consult a qualified authority where it matters to you most. The interface, the ingredient names and every reason are available in 15 languages — choose yours in Settings.

Free to download. The barcode scan, the verdict and the reason are free forever — the reason is never behind a paywall. Scan your first barcode and see why.
