About St. John Bosco - Boko

Don Bosco Boko, which now consists of a Parish and a Higher Secondary School, was an initiative that the Salesian Province of Guwahati undertook under the patronages of then Archbishop of Shillong Most Rev. Hubert D’Rossario and then Salesian Provincial, Rev. Fr John Kalapura, with the financial support of Late Fr Porcu Mario, then parish priest of Sonaighuli, and with the logistics that Rev. Fr Lukose Cheruvalel, Rev. Fr Augustine Karottupuram and Rev. Augustine Edasserithottathil, Rev. Fr Bosco Minj, successive assistant parish priests of Sonaighuli,  provided.  Fr Lukose was appointed assistant parish priest in Sonaighuli soon after his ordination in 1980. However, he was transferred within a year as he was appointed secretary to the provincial.  Fr Augustine Karottupuram took his place but due to a motorcycle accident he had to be transferred.  It was then that Fr Augustine Edasserithottathil became the assistant parish priest. In 1983, he was transferred and Fr John Bosco Minj became the assistant parish priest.  It was during this period that the Mission at Boko was conceptualized and land was purchased for the purpose.
