Back to One is a self-tape studio and acting coach for actors working on their own. Rehearsing, memorizing and recording are free, with no account and no AI needed: the reader uses the voices already on your phone and works offline. Pick a scene, choose your role, and the app reads the other parts, listens for your lines and cues the next one.

REHEARSE WITH A READER THAT WAITS FOR YOU
- The reader speaks every other character and comes in when you finish your line, not before. Take a beat mid-line and it holds.
- Smart mode follows your words with speech recognition that runs on your phone. If it ever misses you, tap Next and carry on.
- Voice, Tap and Timed modes, a Bluetooth pedal or the volume keys give you full control.
- Slow the reader down or speed it up, and set how long it waits before coming in.
- Prefer a person? Turn off the voice and let a friend read from the prompter.

LEARN YOUR LINES
- Memorize mode fades your lines in five steps, from the full text to a blind cue, and checks what you said word by word.
- Ask "Line?" when you go up, or listen through a scene with the screen off.

- Practice scenes from stage, screen and classic novels, each with its own rating.
- Every scene comes with the skill it trains, each character's objective, and a note for the room.
- Bring your own sides: import a PDF, Final Draft, Fountain or Word file, photograph printed pages, or write a scene yourself.

- A prompter sits beside the lens and rolls with you.
- Framing guides and an eyeline mark keep your shot casting-ready.
- On foldables, the cover screen can face you while the inner screen runs the prompter.

WHAT IS FREE, AND WHAT IS NOT
- Free: rehearsing, memorizing, recording, the whole scene library and basic voices. No limit on scenes or pages.
- Studio day: every Studio tool for 24 hours (exporting and sharing takes, importing and writing scripts, slates, 4K, the second screen). Your first is free; after that, two short ads start one whenever you choose. Ads never play unless you ask.

AI VOICES, IF YOU WANT THEM
AI voices are computer-generated voices from ElevenLabs that read the other parts and act the stage directions. They are optional and always labeled; three library scenes include them so you can hear the difference before paying.
With All Access they just work: about 50 new lines of your own scripts a week. Library scenes are free. After that, basic voices read new lines until the reset.

- Advanced: with Pro or a Studio day you can connect your own ElevenLabs, OpenAI or Google Cloud account instead, billed by them.

FOR YOUNG ACTORS AND THEIR PARENTS
Child profiles sit behind a parent PIN, are capped at PG, and never show ads or purchases. A parent decides whether a child's profile uses AI voices.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account and no analytics. Your voice and your recordings are never uploaded. Only when AI voices read a line are that line's words sent to be voiced.

SCENES AND RIGHTS
Library scenes come from public-domain works or are brief excerpts used for teaching and practice. Scripts belong to their authors: use takes for auditions, class and your reel, and don't sell the material. Rights holders: [email protected]
