MumCycle is an innovative resale and community platform designed to make parenting more affordable, sustainable, and connected. The project seeks to address the financial and environmental challenges parents face, particularly mothers, when raising infants and young children.
Babies quickly outgrow clothing, toys, and gear, leaving families with gently used items that still hold significant value. At the same time, many parents, especially within working-class and middle-income groups, struggle to afford new, quality items. MumCycle bridges this gap by providing a trusted online marketplace where parents can buy and sell baby and kids’ items at affordable prices.
Through a website and mobile app, mothers and caregivers can upload photos and descriptions of their items, set prices, and connect with buyers. Sellers earn money while decluttering, and buyers gain access to essential products at 30–80% off retail prices. The platform also integrates delivery solutions through partnerships with local logistics providers, ensuring safe and convenient exchanges.
The business model is built on commissions from transactions, optional seller subscriptions for featured listings, and logistics partnerships. Beyond commerce, MumCycle envisions building a community-centered ecosystem that includes parenting forums, expert resources, and opportunities for mothers to sell handmade goods or services. Additionally, unsold items may be donated to families in need through NGO partnerships, further enhancing social impact.
In the long term, MumCycle aspires to become the largest circular parenting platform in Africa, promoting sustainable parenting practices, reducing waste to landfills, and supporting families with both affordability and community-driven solutions.
