SafetyCam: Emergency Recorder

SafetyCam is a privacy-focused emergency recorder for Android. Intentionally capture video, audio or photo bursts, then protect every recording in an encrypted on-device vault. It is designed for personal safety, incident documentation and situations where quick access to a recorder matters.

VIDEO, AUDIO AND PHOTO CAPTURE
Choose the mode that fits the moment:
• Video recording with optional microphone audio
• Audio-only recording when you do not need the camera
• Continuous photo-burst capture until you stop or reach the selected duration

ENCRYPTED RECORDING VAULT
Recordings are encrypted on your device with Android Keystore-backed AES-GCM protection. Browse saved videos, audio recordings and photo bursts in the private in-app vault. Open an item to play the media, browse burst photos or inspect details such as recording time, duration, encrypted size and available media information.

You can optionally store a SHA-256 fingerprint with new recordings for later integrity checks. SafetyCam does not automatically upload your recordings. Saved media remains encrypted in app-controlled storage or another supported on-device destination you select.

QUICK, INTENTIONAL CONTROLS
Start or stop recording from the SafetyCam app, ongoing recording notification, optional ready notification, home-screen widget or launcher shortcuts. Every recording begins with a deliberate user action. Recording never starts solely because the app is installed.

Optional motor-accessibility controls can start or stop recording using a configured Volume Down double-press or triple-press, a firm shake, or the Android Accessibility button. You enable these controls separately. They do not read screen content, perform gestures, observe other keys or block normal volume-button behaviour.

VISIBLE RECORDING STATUS
SafetyCam keeps Android camera and microphone privacy indicators visible whenever those sensors are active. An ongoing foreground-service notification shows that recording is running and provides a Stop action. You can also stop and secure the current recording from the app.

After an intentional start, recording can continue while you use another app or lock the screen, subject to Android and device restrictions. The active notification and privacy indicators remain visible. SafetyCam does not offer hidden or covert recording.

CUSTOMISABLE CAMERA RECORDING
Adapt capture to the capabilities of your Android phone. Available settings can include:
• Front or rear camera
• Video quality and frame rate
• Supported zoom levels
• Video stabilisation
• Optional microphone audio
• Maximum recording duration
• Automatic video chunk splitting
• Active recording screen or supported overlay display

Device-specific options appear only when supported. Smart Prevention can use the proximity sensor to reduce unintended starts while the phone is covered.

FLEXIBLE ENCRYPTED STORAGE
Choose internal app storage, app-specific SD-card storage when available, or a folder selected through Android's system storage picker. Recordings remain encrypted at the selected destination and do not automatically appear in the system camera gallery. Temporary playback copies are managed inside the app cache.

OPTIONAL LOCATION METADATA
Location is off by default. If you enable it and grant permission, SafetyCam can attach the last-known approximate or precise location when recording begins. Location is associated only with that recording. The app does not request background location or continuously track your device.

SafetyCam does not claim to prevent emergencies, contact emergency services or guarantee capture in every situation. Camera availability, battery state, Android permissions, storage space, manufacturer restrictions and device hardware can affect recording. Test your preferred controls and settings on your phone before relying on them.
