About Mahj Night: American Mahjong

No subscription. No account. Just American mahjong.

Mahj Night is free to play: no monthly fee, no sign-up, nothing to log into. Sit down at a full four-player table whenever you want one - you at East, South, West or North, and three AI opponents in the other seats. The 152-tile American set with flowers and jokers. The whole Charleston. Called discards, exposures, and a hand won or lost in five to ten minutes.

THE GAME YOU ALREADY KNOW
Deal, then pass: three tiles right, three across, three left - and then the table votes on whether to run the second Charleston back the other way. Pass blind on the last one if your hand is already committed. Then draw, discard, and listen. Every discard is claimable until the next player racks a tile, so one careless 5 Bam can hand somebody else the hand. Pungs, kongs and quints go face up on your rack and lock you in. Jokers stand for any tile inside a group of three or more - never in a pair, never as a single digit of a year hand, and never passed in the Charleston. Spot a joker sitting in someone's exposure and you can trade the real tile for it on your turn.

OUR OWN CARD, AND YOU CAN READ IT
Mahj Night ships an original card written for this app: 50 hands across nine categories - Year Run, Evens, Odds, Matching Trios, Ladders, Quints, Honors, Prime Time and The Purist - worth 25 to 75 points, with a concealed hand in every section. It is our card, not any league's, and it comes with the app: there is no card to buy each year. Browse the whole thing any time, color-coded by suit the way a printed card is, and tap any pattern to see it dealt out as real tiles.

A TRACKER THAT TEACHES THE CARD
The hands you are closest to sit in a live bar right above your rack, with the tiles you still need. It re-ranks on every draw, claim and pass. Beginners learn to read the card by playing instead of by studying; anyone who already plays gets the scratch pad they were keeping in their head.

THREE OPPONENTS, THREE GEARS
Casual makes real mistakes. Standard plays a clean, consistent hand. Shark counts the copies still unseen, hoards its jokers until a claim nearly wins, and starts throwing you dead tiles once the hand gets late. Switch difficulty between deals.

YOUR FIRST HAND IS TAUGHT
A new install starts in a guided hand: a coach card explains the Charleston, the claim window and the payout as they actually happen, and you can skip it at any point. A full rules reference lives in the app for the mid-hand "wait, can I claim that?" moment.

BUILT FOR ONE HAND
Portrait, one-handed, with your fourteen tiles and everybody's exposures on screen at once. A two-row rack of bigger tiles if you want it. A color-blind card that marks each suit with its own line. Sound and haptics you can switch off. A claim window you can set to 3, 5 or 8 seconds, or an auto-pass that skips it when the discard is no use to you. Leave mid-hand and it is exactly where you left it. The hand runs entirely on your device, so it plays on a plane.

WIN COINS, DRESS THE TABLE
Points become coins, and coins buy tile backs, tile faces and table felts. That is the whole economy: cosmetics never touch a rule, a payout or a draw, and nothing is ever wagered.

FREE, AND STRAIGHT ABOUT IT
Mahj Night shows an occasional full-screen ad between hands - never during one. Short videos are always your choice: watch one for a hint on your turn, a coin top-up in the Shop, or to double a win's coins. Remove Ads is a one-time purchase that switches off the banner and the between-hand ads for good, and two coin packs are there if you want the cosmetics sooner. Nothing renews, and nothing is a subscription.

Mahj Night is a single-player game - one human, three AI opponents - from Ruthless Games.
