Ras Kids

Ras Kids is a parental control app built for Ethiopian families. Install it on your child's Android phone or tablet to manage screen time, block apps, and give them a safe, kid-friendly home screen with Amharic alphabet learning built in. For families in Ethiopia and Ethiopians abroad.

FOR PARENTS
• Create a parent account with your phone number (+251 supported)
• Set a secure PIN to protect parent settings
• Choose exactly which apps your child can use (whitelist)
• Set daily screen time limits and bedtime schedules
• View on-device usage reports, see what your child used and for how long
• Manage everything from one place, in English or Amharic

FOR CHILDREN (KIDS HUB)
• A clean, kid-friendly home screen with only approved apps and content
• Amharic alphabet (Fidel) tracing, with guided finger tracing and audio pronunciation from native speakers
• Recommended educational apps and kid-safe videos, curated for Ethiopian families
• Opening a non-approved app brings them straight back to their safe home screen

HOW IT WORKS
Ras Kids replaces the default Android launcher on your child's device. When they try to open an app that isn't on the approved list, Ras Kids brings them back to the safe home screen. Bedtime and time-limit screens require the parent PIN to unlock or extend.

SETUP (ONE TIME)
1. Install Ras Kids and sign in with your phone number
2. Complete onboarding — child profile, parent PIN, and permissions
3. Set Ras Kids as the default launcher when prompted
4. Grant the permissions below for reliable protection

PERMISSIONS: WHY WE NEED THEM
Ras Kids uses standard Android permissions to enforce the rules you set. We do not use them to read, record, or share your child's personal content.
• Accessibility service detects when your child opens an app that isn't on your approved list, so Ras Kids can block it and return to the safe home screen. Used only for app blocking; it does not read screen content.
• Display over other apps brings Ras Kids to the front when blocking a non-approved app
• Usage access powers on-device screen time reports, visible only to the parent
• Battery optimization exemption keeps protection running reliably on Samsung, Xiaomi, and other devices
• Notifications shows a status notification while protection is active
