NitrogenApp

NitrogenApp2025 is a mobile application designed to help farmers, researchers and students estimate the nitrogen fertiliser requirements of wheat, rice and maize using simple leaf or canopy images.

Developed under the Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) Project 21-140 at the University of the Punjab, Lahore, the app applies image analysis techniques to assess leaf greenness and provide evidence-based nitrogen recommendations. It is a practical, research-based tool to support efficient fertiliser use and more sustainable crop management.

Key features
• Image-based nitrogen estimation — capture leaf or canopy photos directly through the app.
• Greenness analysis — measures green pixel intensity to assess likely nitrogen status.
• Fertiliser recommendations — suggests nitrogen rates in kg/ha, kg/acre and urea equivalents.
• Guidance materials — includes text instructions and video demonstrations for correct image capture and fertiliser management.
• Multi-crop support — optimised for wheat, rice and maize.
• Offline capability — most features operate without an internet connection.
• Educational use — suitable for teaching, demonstrations and field research.

Benefits
NitrogenApp2025 helps users improve nitrogen use efficiency, reduce input costs and lower the risk of over-fertilisation. The app is intended as a decision-support tool and should be used alongside local best practice and agronomic advice.
