Lord Hanuman also known as Mahavira or Bajrangbali, is a Hindu god and an ardent devotee of the god Rama. He is a central figure in the Hindu epic Ramayana and its various versions. As he is Chiranjeevi, he is also mentioned in several other texts, including Mahabharata, the various Puranas, and some Jain texts. Vanara (monkey), Lord Hanuman participated in Rama's war against the demon king Ravana. Several texts also present him as an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

The devotees visit temples and apply tilaka of shendur to their foreheads from Hanuman's idol as Hanuman himself was of that color. On Hanuman Jayanti, many people keep fast in honor of Hanuman. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in true style because Hanuman is considered the living embodiment of the true Karma Yogi.
