About Nines: Williams Rules

Play Williams Rules with friends, practise on your own, or keep score while you use a physical deck.

PLAY WITH FRIENDS
Create an online game and share its short code. Each player gets a fixed label, such as Player 1, and marks themselves ready. The host starts the game. Close the app between turns and review the moves you missed when you return. Optional turn notifications are available to players aged 13 or over. Online games support two to eight players.

PRACTISE SOLO
Play against one to seven computer opponents. Guided mode helps you find legal moves. Unguided mode lets you work them out yourself. Resume a saved practice hand without an internet connection.

KEEP SCORE AT THE TABLE
Save your regular players and record each hand. Current totals stay on the left, ordered from lowest to highest. Leave the closer’s score blank or enter zero. Nines rotates the starter, keeps the hand history and lets you correct scores in an active game.

SCAN A HAND
Card scans and personal API keys are available to adults aged 18 or over.
Use the camera or choose a photo of up to nine cards. Check every detected rank before you confirm the total. Manual entry is always available. Scans need an internet connection and send the image to OpenRouter and its model provider. Free recognition depends on provider availability and usage limits. You can use an optional personal OpenRouter API key; your provider’s charges and terms apply.

PLAY AT YOUR PACE
Choose light or dark mode, adjust the text and cards, and control sound, haptics and motion. The Williams Rules reference is included. There are no ads or account sign-ups.

Online play requires an internet connection. Turn notifications depend on device settings and delivery services. Online rooms expire 90 days after their last game or lobby change. Local practice and manual scorekeeping remain on your device.

What’s new

Version 1.0.0 · Updated October 3, 2026

Practice and multiplayer now share clearer turn indicators, hand controls and move history. Phone layouts keep text and card counts readable, including at larger text sizes. Replay controls take less space, and saved games can have custom names on your device. This update also fixes a practice game that could fail to reopen after the drawn card was played to the table.
