About Brain Training: MindHive
MindHive is an offline brain training game built on peer-reviewed cognitive science. No ads, no accounts, no data collection. Just you and your brain.
The main arena game challenges your reflexes with moving targets, bombs, and increasing speed. But reflexes alone are not enough. As difficulty rises, three types of cognitive targets appear — each drawn from a task that researchers have used for decades to measure specific mental skills.
Stroop targets show a color word in the wrong ink. A blue circle might display the word RED in green text. You have to ignore the word, ignore the text color, and tap the circle's actual color. This is the Stroop test — the standard measure of cognitive flexibility since 1935.
N-Back targets appear at positions on a grid. The challenge is not just tapping them — it is remembering whether the current position matches one from several turns ago. Match targets reward significantly more points. The N-Back task is widely used in working memory research, though its transfer to general intelligence remains debated in the literature.
Flanker targets display arrows with competing distractors on either side. The center arrow points one direction while the surrounding arrows may point the same way or the opposite way. Your brain has to focus on the center and suppress the interference. Incongruent targets — where the distractors conflict — reward 1.5x points.
Your performance across all four domains — reflex, flexibility, memory, and focus — feeds into a single brain score. The adaptive difficulty engine monitors your hit rate and adjusts in real time. Above 88 percent accuracy, the game speeds up. Below 70 percent, it eases back. You stay in the zone where real learning happens.
Everything runs on your phone. No internet required. No data leaves your device. Currently ad-free, under 3 MB. Some features may be offered for purchase in future updates.
