About DriveRef
DriveRef provides realtime, objective motion feedback to help drivers practice smoother and more consistent vehicle control.
Because DriveRef provides feedback in real time, the driver can immediately relate the feedback to how the vehicle’s movement actually feels. This can help build a better connection between the physical feel of smoother or more abrupt acceleration, braking, and turning and a consistent motion-based reference. With audible alerts enabled, feedback can also be provided without requiring the driver to look at the screen.
It can be especially useful when parents or driving instructors are helping teens and other new drivers practice. Instead of relying only on a passenger’s subjective opinion about whether braking, acceleration, or turning was too abrupt, DriveRef provides a consistent motion-based reference that can help guide the conversation.
DriveRef can support several driving goals, including:
• Smoother acceleration and braking
• More controlled turning
• Improved passenger comfort
• More consistent driving habits
• Fuel-conscious driving practice
• New-driver practice and self-review
Mount your phone securely in an upright portrait position, calibrate it while safely parked, and start a drive. DriveRef uses the phone’s motion sensors to identify smooth, moderate, and significant vehicle movements.
Key features:
• Real-time motion feedback for acceleration, braking, and turning
• Optional audible event alerts
• Clear green, yellow, and red severity indicators
• Adjustable force thresholds and feedback timing
• Trip history with recorded driving events
• Trip summaries with event counts and peak forces
• Local, on-device storage
• No account required
• No ads, GPS tracking, analytics, or cloud storage
DriveRef does not measure fuel consumption or guarantee improved fuel economy. However, practicing smoother acceleration, braking, and turning may help support more fuel-conscious and comfortable driving habits.
DriveRef’s default feedback thresholds are intended for normal driving on dry, paved roads. The app does not determine whether a maneuver is safe for current road, traffic, weather, vehicle, tire, or visibility conditions.
DriveRef provides general motion feedback only. It does not determine whether a driver is safe, skilled, efficient, or compliant with traffic laws. It is not a driving instructor, driver-education program, vehicle safety system, emergency service, or substitute for attentive driving and qualified instruction.
Always mount, calibrate, and configure the phone while safely parked. Do not hold, read, adjust, or interact with the phone while operating a vehicle. A passenger should operate the app whenever interaction is required.
Sensor readings can vary by phone, mount position, vehicle, road surface, and calibration. The driver remains fully responsible for safe vehicle operation.
