Community Service Learning

Community Service Learning (CBC) is the complete study and service companion for Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) Community Service Learning subject. Built for senior school learners, it brings the CSL syllabus, seven hands-on planning tools, a service journal, and a portfolio generator into one offline-friendly app — so you can learn the theory, apply it in your community, and prove your impact, all in one place.

WHY THIS APP
CSL asks you to do more than pass a test — you have to identify a real community need, plan a response, carry it out, and reflect on what happened. This app is structured around that exact journey: Learn the concept, use a Toolkit to plan it, log it in your Journal, and export the evidence as a Portfolio.

LEARN — THE FULL CSL CURRICULUM
Study all four CBC strands, broken into sub-strands and bite-sized lessons:
• Citizenship — the principles and rationale of CSL, civic identity, community needs and stakeholder mapping, leadership development, and intercultural competence
• Life Skills — public self-awareness, conflict resolution, and responsible decision-making
• Action Research — the action research cycle, problem identification, and implementation planning
• Social Entrepreneurship — the social enterprise process, opportunity identification, planning, and resource mobilisation

Every lesson combines text, video, and audio content so you can study the way that suits you, with end-of-topic checks to test your understanding. A built-in case study library shows how real CSL projects played out, and everything can be downloaded for offline learning — perfect for low-connectivity areas.

TOOLKIT — 7 TOOLS THAT DO THE ACTUAL PLANNING
Turn what you've learned into a real project with purpose-built tools that save your work so you can pick up where you left off:
• Action Research Board — run the plan–act–observe–reflect cycle on a real community problem
• Data Collection Toolkit — tally sheets, checklists, and surveys to gather evidence
• Decision Wizard — work through a structured process to make a responsible, defensible decision
• Conflict Resolution — walk through realistic community conflict scenarios and strategies
• Leadership Assessment — evaluate your own leadership qualities and style
• Budget Calculator — cost out a project or enterprise idea
• Social Enterprise Plan Builder — build a full plan with team members, products/services, and a budget for a social enterprise idea

FIELD JOURNAL — LOG YOUR SERVICE AS YOU GO
Record entries as your project unfolds, attach photos captured directly in the app, and keep a running service log. An Impact Dashboard visualises your service hours and activity over time, so you can see your contribution add up.

PROFILE — TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Earn badges as you complete lessons and tools, review your stats, manage offline downloads and storage, and generate a polished CSL Portfolio (PDF) that pulls together your journal entries and project evidence — ready to submit or present. An in-app AI Hub assistant is on hand to answer CSL questions as you work.

BUILT FOR REAL SCHOOL USE
• Works fully offline once content is downloaded
• Your data stays on your device — journal entries, badges, and tool data are stored locally in an on-device database
• Dark mode support
• No account required to start learning

Whether you're just starting to explore what CSL means or you're deep into planning a community project, this app keeps the curriculum, the tools, and the evidence of your work together in one place.
