About Compass: Digital Compass

A clean compass that just works.

Compass turns your phone into a straightforward direction finder. Open it and the dial shows where north is: no setup, no account.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• See your heading in degrees and by name (North, Northeast, East…)
• Lock a bearing and follow it: the app tells you how many degrees to turn left or right
• Feel a short vibration when you are on your bearing (you can turn it off in "How it works")
• Freeze the reading when you cannot look at the screen
• Get warned when metal or magnets are throwing the reading off
• Use it held flat in your hand or upright while walking

FEATURES
• Large, easy-to-read compass dial
• Heading in degrees plus the direction name (8 directions)
• Bearing lock with "turn left / turn right" guidance
• Short vibration on bearing, can be turned off
• Hold mode
• Magnetic interference warning
• Calibration reminder when the sensor drifts
• Works whether you hold the phone flat or upright, and shows the right direction on tablets held in landscape too
• Dark and light theme, following your system setting
• The screen stays on while you use it
• Available in 14 languages

NO LOCATION PERMISSION
Works without internet; asks for no location permission. The app does not access your location, camera, microphone, contacts or files. It reads only the magnetic sensor that is already in your phone.

Because location is not used, the app shows magnetic north rather than true north. For everyday orientation the difference is small, usually a few degrees.

You may notice that the Data safety section on this page lists approximate location, app activity and device identifiers. Those are collected by the ad network that keeps this app free, not by the app itself. The app has no server, no account and stores nothing about you.

ABOUT ACCURACY
Phone magnetometers are affected by metal, magnets, speakers, car bodies and other electronics, and they need occasional recalibration (wave the phone in a figure-8). Use this app for everyday orientation, not for marine, aviation or wilderness navigation where an error could be dangerous.

The app is free and supported by a single banner ad at the bottom of the screen. The ad never covers the dial or the buttons.

Version 1.0.4 · Updated October 23, 2026

• Turn the phone sideways and the compass switches to landscape (when auto-rotate is on). North stays correct in every screen position.
