About JShell

【Terminal】

· SSH PTY interactive terminal (ConnectBot termlib / libvterm native kernel), ANSI color, UTF-8, native inertial scrolling

· 20,000 lines of history rollback; multiple sessions are kept tabbed simultaneously, each retaining its screen and scroll position

· Built-in MesloLGS NF monospace font, Powerline / Nerd Font prompt icons (e.g., powerlevel10k) display correctly

· Common keys: Ctrl, Tab, Esc, arrow keys, preview before pasting

· Font size adjustable from 8–28sp

【Connection and Security】

· Password or private key authentication (supports key-based authentication); optional "Remember Password" (checkbox is checked by default), when checked, the password/password is encrypted and saved locally via Android Keystore AES-GCM, and can be cleared at any time; the private key can also be selected and encrypted on the host editing page, and directly saved for the next connection (can be cleared on the editing page), only the private key temporarily selected in the connection pop-up is not written to the device

· First connection verification server SHA-256 fingerprint; connection is directly blocked when fingerprint changes.

· Trusted server fingerprints can be viewed or removed at any time.

· Supports first-level SSH jump hosts; the jump host and target machine are authenticated and their fingerprints verified separately.

【System Monitoring】
· After connection, the following information is displayed in the terminal top bar: CPU (including per core), memory and swap partition, disk usage, and network uplink/downlink speeds.

· The process list can be sorted by CPU/memory, and processes can be terminated directly.

· Automatic refresh every 5 seconds, or manual refresh; data collection uses an independent channel, without interrupting terminal output.

· Supports Linux and macOS servers.

【File Management (SFTP)】
· Directory browsing: icon, permissions, size, modification time, sorted by name/size/time.

· Direct path access; text and image preview, automatically recognizes binary files and prompts for large file truncation.

· One-click save to phone: uses the system file selector, requiring no storage permissions.

· Upload (multiple selections allowed), create folder, rename, move, delete (directory recursion), prompts for overwrite or preservation of duplicate names.

【Port Forwarding (-L / -R)】
· Saves tunnel rules based on host, automatically established after connection, automatically resumes after disconnection and reconnection.

· Allows mobile phones to directly access the panel, database, and intranet services on the server that only listen on 127.0.0.1.

· Can also pass the mobile phone's port to the server (for webhooking, demonstrating local services).

· Default only listens on 127.0.0.1; a clear warning will be given when choosing to open to the same network.

【Session Persistence (tmux)】
· Automatically attaches to the tmux session after connection, returns to the original working state after disconnection and reconnection.

· Can view the list of sessions on the server in the panel, attach, create, or end sessions; provides installation commands if tmux is not installed.

【AI Shell Assistant (feature under development, not yet available in the current version)】
· Supports OpenAI and DeepSeek.

· Each command requires your manual approval before execution; high-impact commands are highlighted, and interactive commands (vim, top, etc.) are blocked directly.

Commands are executed through an independent channel with timeout and output length limits, without interfering with the terminal.

【Session Keep-Alive and Unlock】

• Foreground Service + Notification: Sessions persist when switching to other apps or when the screen is off; notifications allow direct return to the terminal or disconnection.

• Optional Fingerprint Unlock: Verification is required upon returning from an app; Android 11+ supports device PIN/password as a fallback.

【Free and Pro Versions】

• Free Version: SSH terminal, multiple sessions (up to 2 simultaneous connections), key/password authentication, fingerprint lock, SFTP browsing/preview/saving to phone, command snippets (5) – no ads

• Pro (one-time unlock, non-subscription): Unlimited sessions, tmux session persistence, real-time system monitoring and Docker/systemd management, port forwarding, SFTP upload and modification (edit/rename/move/delete/change permissions), task completion reminders, one-click public key installation, unlimited command snippets

• Purchase via Google Play Settlement; after switching devices, you can retrieve your purchase using "Restore Purchase". It is not linked to any account, and we do not access your payment information (see Privacy Policy 4.5 for details).

【Privacy: Local Priority】

· No account system, no developer server, no advertising, statistics, or crash reporting SDK

· Host configuration, server fingerprint, settings, and tokens exist only on your device; passwords/passwords are only saved locally as encrypted Keystore data after selecting "Remember Password", and private keys are also only encrypted and saved after selection on the host editing page (both can be cleared at any time). Temporarily selected private keys in the connection pop-up are not stored on disk.

· Not involved in cloud backup; when switching devices, use your own encrypted backup file with a password (credentials are not included by default), which is completely deleted upon uninstallation.

· All data is only transferred directly between your phone and your designated server/service, and is never sent to our servers.

· Privacy Policy: https://jayjayzhang.github.io/privacy/

【Getting Started】
Requires a connectable SSH server (your own or your company's machine) – J Shell only provides the client, not the server. Supports Android 8.0 and above; the interface follows the system language and provides Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English.
