Matecraft Mate Puzzles

Matecraft is a focused chess tactics trainer built around one satisfying loop: find the forced checkmate. Twenty-four hand-picked positions cover clean mate-in-1 finishes and two-move combinations, drawn on a distraction-free walnut-and-ivory board — no internet connection is ever needed.

SOLVE THE POSITION
Tap a piece to see every square it can legally reach highlighted right on the board, then tap a destination to play your move. Get it right and the board reacts immediately — including auto-playing the opponent's only reply on the two-move puzzles so you can find the finishing blow. Get it wrong and the move simply reverts with a light shake, no penalty, no pressure — just try again.

BUILT AS A PUZZLE, NOT A FULL ENGINE
Matecraft checks two things: that your move follows the basic geometry of the piece you're moving, and that it matches the recorded winning line. It doesn't try to referee an entire chess game — no check detection, no castling, no en passant — so every puzzle stays sharp, quick, and purely about spotting the tactic.

LEARN THE PIECES
The Learn tab is a compact primer on how each piece moves, paired with a "name that move?" practice quiz: a single piece appears on an empty board with a candidate destination, and you judge whether the move is legal. Perfect for total beginners brushing up before diving into the puzzles.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Every solve is saved locally with your best time. The Stats tab rolls up how many mate-in-1s and mate-in-2s you've cracked, and the Awards tab unlocks badges as your tactical eye sharpens — from your first checkmate to clearing the entire puzzle set.
