Finch Shore Traits

Natural selection you can watch. Change the shore and see a pastel creature population adapt, generation by generation.

Finch Shore Traits is an educational simulation that turns evolution into something you can see and steer. A population of 90 gentle, rounded creatures lives on a sandy shore. Each one carries four heritable traits: body shade, size, beak depth and stride speed. Shape their world, and watch the population drift toward what the shore rewards.

SET THE PRESSURE
Five environment sliders control how selection works: ground tone, seed hardness, spotting pressure, air temperature and seed spread. Fitness is a product of four bell-shaped match scores, so better-matched creatures are picked as parents more often. Their young copy or blend their parents and receive a small random mutation. Nothing dies on screen - less-suited creatures simply leave fewer young.

ONE-TAP EVENTS
Darken the ground, bring a drought or trigger a cold snap. Events shift the environment instantly, and you can follow the traits as they respond over the next generations.

GUIDED EXPERIMENTS
Six guided experiments give you a trait target to reach. Before an experiment starts, the engine checks that its goal is actually reachable, so every challenge can be solved.

CLEAR CHARTS
See trait averages over time, compare current and starting histograms, and track average fitness as the population changes.
