About Knot Wiki: AR 3D Knot Tying

No ads, no subscription, true augmented reality 3D interactivity.
Knot Wiki is a knot tying guide with 450+ knots in augmented reality (AR) and interactive 3D. Learn marine knots for boating and sailing, fishing knots, camping, climbing, scout and rescue knots step by step, offline and with no account.

Augmented reality: knots on your real table
Tap "View in AR" and the knot appears on your table, desk or deck through your phone camera. Every knot in the app works in AR. Walk around it, drag to turn it, pinch to resize it, or switch to life size to match your own rope. Play it step by step and tie along with the knot in front of you. AR works on phones that support Google Play Services for AR (ARCore); the camera image is not saved or sent.

Knot tying in true 3D
Every knot is a real-time 3D animation, not a video. Drag to rotate it 360 degrees at any moment, even while it is being tied. Pinch to zoom and pan with two fingers.
• Play, pause, scrub to any point, or go back and forward one step at a time
• Slow it down to 0.5x or speed it up to 2x
• Step-by-step instructions that follow the animation; step mode pauses after each move
• Left-handed mirror view, auto-rotate, loop and full screen

Marine knots for boating and sailing
A Marine Knots section starts with the crew essentials, then groups knots by job: mooring and docking, anchoring, sails, sheets and halyards, heaving lines, joining lines, rescue loops, rope care and coiling, and sailor's decorative knots. Cleat Hitch, Bowline, Rolling Hitch, Anchor Bend, Sheet Bend and more.

Find the right knot for the job
Not sure which knot to tie? Pick the job: make a loop, join two ropes, tie a rope to a post or ring, lash and bind, tension a line, stop a rope end, or coil a rope. The knot finder narrows the choice by rope type, load and place, then explains which knots fit.
Search by name, use or ABOK number, or compare two knots side by side.

Fishing knots
Line-to-hook, line-to-line and loop knots for anglers, including the Palomar, Improved Clinch, Uni, Double Uni, Blood Knot, Surgeon's Loop, Dropper Loop and FG.

Camping, climbing, scout and rescue knots
Taut-Line Hitch, Trucker's Hitch, Prusik Knot, Munter Hitch, Alpine Butterfly Loop, Figure-Eight Follow-Through, lashings for pioneering projects, plus arborist, household and decorative knots and 26 Turk's heads, including the scout woggle.

17 categories and knot details
From essential knots, stoppers, loops, bends and hitches to friction hitches, binding, lashings and whippings, sorted from easiest to hardest. Each knot has a description, uses, tips and warnings, related knots and its other names. Many include ABOK numbers from The Ashley Book of Knots and strength and security ratings.

Practice until it sticks
• Knot quizzes: name the knot, what is it for, and put the steps in order
• Daily streaks, badges and a tie-along timer with your personal best
• Hands-free voice control: say "next", "back" or "repeat" while your hands hold the rope, with steps read aloud if you like
• Knot of the day widget and an optional daily reminder

Make it your own
• Favorites and collections for a trip, a job or a class, shareable with a link
• Save or share any knot as a PDF step sheet or an image to print
• 9 rope colour schemes, 4 rope textures, 7 backgrounds, light and dark themes

Free, offline and private
Knot Wiki is free, with no in-app purchases and no sign-in. All 450+ knots and their animations are inside the app, so the knot tying guide works offline on the boat, at camp or on the crag.

Available in 39 languages; knot names, steps and descriptions are translated into 26 of them.

For anglers, sailors, campers, climbers, scouts, arborists, rescue teams and anyone learning knot tying.

Safety note: knots can fail. Knot Wiki is a learning aid. Get proper training before you rely on any knot for climbing, rescue, lifting or other life-safety use.
