Calmly Script

Calmly Script is a screenwriting app for phones, tablets and Chromebooks, with everything a working screenwriter needs in an interface that is clean, quiet and beautiful. It stays out of your way: scene headings, action, characters and dialogue follow one another as fast as you can write them, and the pages come out in industry-standard format.

WRITE, DON'T FORMAT
Type a scene heading and press Enter: you are writing action. Tab turns an empty line into a character, Enter after the name starts the dialogue, and a line typed in brackets becomes a parenthetical. Margins, capitals and spacing follow on their own. On a touchscreen, the format bar at the foot of the editor does the same.

The characters and places you have already written come back in grey as you type them again, and so does the time of day. Accept them with a tap; keep typing and they go away. Action and dialogue are never completed for you: those words are yours.

PAGES THAT LOOK RIGHT
The preview shows the script as it will print: Courier 12, standard margins, page breaks with (MORE) and (CONT'D), about a page a minute, on US Letter or A4. The pages keep up as you write, and they are the same pages the PDF is made of.

NOT ONLY SCREENPLAYS
Lay the same writing out as a screenplay, a stage play, a multi-camera sitcom or a manuscript. The document type changes the pages, never your words.

BRING YOUR DRAFTS, SEND YOUR PAGES
• Import screenplays from Final Draft (.fdx), PDF and Word.
• Export a PDF for readers, a Word document, or a Final Draft file for production.
• Every script is a .fountain file: plain text that other screenwriting apps and any text editor can open, and that you can back up and keep for decades.

DOWN TO THE LAST (CONT'D)
• Title page, printed on a cover page of its own
• Scene numbers in both margins
• Dual dialogue, side by side
• Page breaks by the rules: a heading never ends a page, and a long speech splits between sentences
• Outline: the whole story in one panel, with your scenes, sections and notes
• Notes with tags such as [[Todo: …]] and [[Research: …]], which never print
• Cut a scene without deleting it
• Find and replace: rename a character everywhere at once
• Pages, words, scenes, running time and writing goals
• US Letter or A4, without moving a single page break
• Focus Mode: every line but the one you are writing is dimmed
• Nine light and dark themes
• Version history: bring back an earlier version of the script

YOUR SCRIPTS STAY YOURS
Your screenplays stay on your device, and not a word of them ever reaches us: nothing to leak, nothing to sell, nothing to train an AI on. There is no account to sign in to, no ads and no tracking. The app does not even ask for internet access, so it works the same on a plane with the Wi-Fi off. Save your scripts in any folder you choose, including your cloud storage apps.

PAY ONCE
No subscription, no in-app purchases. Buy the app once and it is yours, with future updates included.

Also available for Windows, macOS and Linux at calmlyscript.com (sold separately).
