Maths Defence

Maths Defence is a tower defence game where the maths is the game, not a quiz bolted onto one.

Drag number and operator tiles onto the grid and build an equation. Get it right and the working vanishes, leaving your answer standing on the board as a tower — and that tower shoots. The bigger the number you made, the harder it hits. Get it wrong and nothing is lost: pick the tiles back up and try again.

Then the wave arrives, and you find out whether you built enough.

THREE LEVELS, ONE GAME

Pick the one that fits the child, and change it whenever they are ready:

• Tier 1, ages 10 and under — times tables, adding and subtracting
• Tier 2, ages 11 to 12 — division, fractions, decimals and brackets
• Tier 3, ages 13 and up — negative numbers, powers, and solving for x

WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST

Most of what walks in can be shot by any correct answer. Some of it cannot:

• Prime Golems are only hurt by prime numbers
• Parity Spectres flip between odd and even, and demand whichever they are
• Decimal Splitters come apart when you hit them
• Algebraic Phantoms carry an equation on their back and are untouchable until you solve it

So the question stops being "can I do this sum" and becomes "which sum do I need".

WHEN IT GOES WRONG

The game never just says no. If the two sides of your equation are not equal it tells you which side is bigger — the fact you need, without the answer you were working out. Only after three tries does it say what each side actually comes to. A child who is stuck gets help; a child who is guessing does not get a shortcut.

THE WAVES NEVER STOP

Each tier has a set of waves worth clearing, but they keep coming after that. How far you get is the score. Call each wave when you are ready, or let them call themselves.

FOR PARENTS

• Works completely offline. No internet connection is needed, ever.
• No ads. No in-app purchases. No subscriptions.
• No accounts, no sign-in, no email address.
• Nothing is collected and nothing is sent anywhere. Everything a child does stays on the device.
• Several children can share one tablet, each with their own name, level and progress.
• A Practice Lab restricts the whole game to one topic when a child needs to drill it: adding and subtracting, times tables, division, all four operations, brackets, powers, or negative numbers.
• Compare scores by reading a short code aloud, because two children in one room should not need a server.
• Sound can be turned off.

Built for three children aged 9, 11 and 14, and then finished properly so other people's children could play it too.
