Compass: True North Bearing

Bearing is an accurate digital compass with true north, magnetic declination, a bubble level, and magnetic interference detection — and no subscription, ever.

A compass app should not cost $15 a week. The biggest compass apps charge exactly that to remove their ads. Bearing shows one small banner, and removing it costs $2.99. Once. Forever. No subscription, no free trial, no "pro plan" — and there never will be.

A REAL INSTRUMENT, NOT AN AD DELIVERY VEHICLE

🧭 Accurate compass heading from sensor fusion — gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer combined at 50 Hz. The needle is steady when you hold still and instant when you turn. No lag, no wobble.

🧭 True north or magnetic north, your choice. The magnetic declination for your exact location (World Magnetic Model) is shown right on the dial, so you always know exactly what your compass is reading.

🧭 Works held flat OR upright. Sight over the top edge of your phone and still get a valid heading — the place most compass apps fall apart.

⚠️ Magnetic interference detection. Bearing compares the live magnetic field against the expected field strength for your location and warns you when steel, magnets or wiring are corrupting the needle. A compass that tells you when it can't be trusted beats one that confidently lies.

📐 Bubble level built into the dial hub. Calibration status shown as a number, with a clear figure-8 prompt when the magnetometer needs it — no silent guessing.

🔒 Bearing lock for navigation: lock a heading, walk it, and see exactly how many degrees left or right you have drifted. Built for hiking, camping, orienteering, hunting, surveying and field work.

🎨 Make it yours. Light, dark, or a red night mode that protects your dark adaptation after sunset. Pick an accent colour from the presets or set any colour you like with the colour wheel.

📍 GPS coordinates and altitude, magnetic field strength in µT, and the screen stays awake while the app is open.

✈️ The compass works fully offline — airplane mode, deep woods, the other side of the world. No internet needed to navigate.

WHAT BEARING WILL NEVER HAVE

✕ No subscriptions — ad removal is a one-time $2.99 purchase
✕ No full-screen ads, no popup ads, no notification spam — one small banner
✕ No accounts, no sign-in
✕ Your GPS location never leaves your phone. It is used on-device for true-north declination and the position readout, and for nothing else.

WHO IT'S FOR

Hikers, campers, hunters, surveyors, boaters, overlanders, and anyone who needs a reliable digital compass with real accuracy instead of a decoration. If you have ever compared a compass app against a real baseplate compass and been disappointed, this one was built and field-tested against professional instruments.

Whether you are navigating a trail, orienting a map, setting up a shot, aligning a satellite dish, checking which way a room faces, or teaching someone to read a compass — Bearing gives you a direction you can trust, and tells you when you shouldn't.

Built by one developer who got tired of $15-a-week compass apps.
