There is a post office in Antarctica. The people who sell stamps there have one more duty written into the job: counting penguins. It says so in the listing.

Some jobs make you stop and say "wait, that's a real job?" A press secretary for the cats who live in a museum. Someone who walks rooftop ducks to a hotel fountain by elevator. Someone who dives into golf course ponds to bring the balls back up. All of them exist, and someone is doing them today.

This app collects those jobs as three-choice quizzes. In some, you read what the work involves and name the job. In others, the job is named and the question is what the work actually consists of day to day, what tools it takes, or why it is done that way. Either way, the surprise lands at the moment you get it.

[1] Thirty seconds a question. One stage fits in a queue.

A stage is five questions. No specialist knowledge needed — you read, you think "huh", you move on. It fits a train ride or the few minutes before you sleep, and it always stops somewhere sensible.

[2] The story keeps going after you answer

Every question comes with an explanation. Right or wrong, what follows is the background: how the work actually goes. That is the best bit, so try not to stop at the answer.

[3] Eight areas, evenly covered

Unusual workplaces, animals and nature, trained senses, world traditions, behind the scenes, making things, surprising services, then and now. Questions are drawn evenly across all eight. The firefighter who parachutes into wildfires, the craftsman who beats bark into cloth and the artist who re-performs footsteps all turn up alike.

Trainee, Explorer and Master. Start at Trainee, or jump to Master if that feels slight. Either way, you clear one stage at a time.

[5] Works without a signal

Every question is stored in the app. Open it on the underground or on a plane without thinking about your connection.

[6] Many languages

Playable in English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German and more. Reading the same question in another language turns up something new.

Checked against sources

Every job here is real. They are written from occupational profiles published by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, UNESCO intangible heritage records, material released by NASA and other public bodies, and local reporting. Things that were merely said to be true once, and one-off novelty postings, are not used as answers.
