About ΑΚΑΘΙΣΤΟΣ ΥΜΝΟΣ
The Akathist Hymn is a "Kontakion" hymn of the Orthodox Church, in honor of the Most Holy Theotokos.
It is sung in churches on the first five Fridays of Great Lent, the first four in parts and the fifth in its entirety.
It consists of a preface and 24 houses (verses) in Greek alphabetical acrostic, from A to Ω (each "house" begins with the corresponding Greek letter in order).
It is written according to the rules of homotony, isosyllabics and partly of rhyme. Its language is serious and poetic and is enriched by decorative adjectives and many figures of speech.
Its theme is the glorification of the incarnation of God through the Virgin Mary, which is done with many expressions of joy and exultation, which give it a triumphant tone.
