Moon Webcam: Apollo 17 Site

What does the Moon look like right now, from the ground?

Open Moon Webcam and you are standing on the Moon, in the Taurus-Littrow valley, where the Apollo 17 astronauts walked in December 1972: the last humans on the Moon. Is it day or night on the Moon? Where is the Sun? Look up: the Earth is hanging in a black sky.

• See Earth from the Moon: our blue planet hangs in the lunar sky and goes through phases, from a thin crescent to a full Earth. Tap it to zoom in.
• Real time: the Sun, the Earth, the planets and the stars are where they really are at this very moment.
• Lunar day and night: on the Moon a day lasts about two weeks, and so does the night. Jump to the next sunrise or sunset in one tap.
• Earthshine: during the long lunar night, the ground is lit by the light of the Earth.
• Time machine: speed time up like a time-lapse, or pick any date from 1900 to 2099.
• Look everywhere: drag the picture to turn around.

Why does the Earth never rise or set? The Moon always shows the same face to the Earth, so from Taurus-Littrow our planet stays almost in the same place in the sky, while the Sun and the stars slowly move past it.

A window on the solar system from the surface of the Moon, for everyone who loves space, astronomy, the night sky and the planets.

GOOD TO KNOW
This is not a live video: no camera streams from the Moon. The ground is a real 360° photo taken by astronaut Eugene Cernan during Apollo 17. The sky, the stars and the light are calculated for the present moment.
