About Ukrainian Holidays & Name Days
A holiday, but no day off? Ukrainian Holidays & Name Days says so plainly.
Under martial law, Article 73 of Ukraine's Labor Code is suspended (Part 6, Article 6 of Law No. 2136-IX): public holidays are still holidays, but they are not days off. The usual transfer of a day off from a weekend does not apply either. Many calendars still show "day off" on dates when people are required to work. Here every holiday carries an honest "Working day" label, with an explanation and the legal reference.
CHURCH DATES, NEW STYLE
Since September 2023 the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church keep fixed feasts by the New Julian calendar, so the name day of Mykola (Nicholas) is 6 December, not the 19th. Easter, Palm Sunday, Ascension and Trinity are calculated from the Alexandrian Paschalion that both churches kept: the dates are right for any year, with no table to go stale and no update to wait for. Easter 2026 is 12 April and 2027 is 2 May; Trinity falls on 31 May and 20 June respectively.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• Today – what is celebrated today and tomorrow: holidays, name days, and name days among your people.
• Holidays – public holidays and the main movable church dates for the year you pick (five years back and forward). Each one shows the day's status, the article of law and an explanation.
• Name days – search by name, including pet forms such as Kolya, Olenka or Alyona. Shows the feast days of the namesake saints.
• My people – a list of those you don't want to forget to congratulate: name, birthday, name day. The nearest feast of the namesake saint after the birthday is suggested, but you can pick another day: there is no single canonical rule, and the app doesn't pretend there is.
• Greetings – ready-made texts in five categories: warm, formal, funny, verse and short. Open one from a name and it is filled in using the vocative case ("Oleno", not "Olena"). Copy it or send it with the Share menu.
• Reminders – optional: the evening before holidays (marked as a day off or a working day), name days of the people on your list, and a morning summary. Everything is off until you turn it on.
PRIVACY
No ads, no subscriptions, no accounts, no analytics. Your list of people and your settings stay on your device. The app works offline; no more than once a week it quietly checks for an update to its directory and sends none of your data.
HONEST LIMITS
The name directory is still growing. If your name is missing, add it manually or write to us from the app. The app is for reference, is not legal advice, and is not affiliated with government bodies or churches.
App languages: Ukrainian and English (follows your phone's language). Holiday names, the name directory and greeting texts are in Ukrainian.
