In the city of Vijayawada, as of 2020, there were approximately more than 30000 stray animals roaming in the streets, as said by news articles from leading sources such Times Now, India Herald, etc. And we are sure, that the number has climbed to more than 45000, and this is being the case because the people who desire to have an animal, are not willing to adopt a stray animal. People are mentioning the “breeds” that they want, as if they are buying a cell phone. This is only one side of the problem. On the other side, the animal shelters that are present in Vijayawada and it’s outer localities, are getting absolutely Zero funding from the government. Although being recognized by the government and even established by the government, they are not getting any funding whatsoever. These animal shelters are being run by the very meagre amounts of charity that they are receiving from their own localities. We believe there’s a great need of addressing this problem on multiple dimensions, and a proper and thorough solution needs to be devised in order to effectively solve this problem. This is why, we’ve chosen this issue as our interest in this report.
